Masters 2018: The Field
Last updated:
It’s Masters Week: Find out who made it in to the field!
Ian Poulter grabbed the final spot with an impressive victory at the Houston Open, defeating Beau Hossler in a sudden-death play-off to win his first ever PGA Tour strokeplay event – taking the field count up to 87.
15 Masters rookies are in the 2018 field, including PGA and European Tour winners Tony Finau, Patton Kizzire, Austin Cook, Wesley Bryan, Haotong Li and 2017 PGA Tour rookie of the year Xander Schauffele. The Masters also extended a special invite to Shubhankar Sharma, the 21-year-old Indian player who has won multiple European Tour titles this season and led two rounds of the WGC Mexico.
The field sits at 87 after Brooks Koepka officially WD with a wrist injury and four invites were extended on Monday following the end of the WGC Dell Match Play. Cameron Smith, Satoshi Kodaira, Dylan Frittelli and Chez Reavie were all ranked between Nos. 44-48 in the latest rankings, earning qualifying spots as the players ranked inside the World’s top 50 the Monday before the Masters. For Frittelli and Kodaira, it’s a maiden trip to Augusta.
So who didn’t qualify?
2016 runner-up Lee Westwood, who has posted five top 10s in his last eight Masters starts, is currently ranked No. 94 in the World, is going to miss his first trip to Augusta since 2004.
Fellow well-known Europeans Shane Lowry, Russell Knox, Padraig Harrington, Luke Donald, Andy Sullivan, Chris Wood and Graeme McDowell join Westwood in being sidelined this year.
Ernie Els, Steve Stricker, Brandt Snedeker, JB Holmes and Keegan Bradley are among the other big names not included in this years Augusta field.
