BMW International Open Preview: Betting Tips & How to watch

The European Tour resumes this week with the BMW International Open at Golf Club Gut Laerchenhof. Here’s how to watch, and who you should back this week. 

Tommy Fleetwood makes the trip from New York to Germany for the BMW International Open after tying the lowest round in a US Open during the final round on Sunday to finish one shot behind Brooks Koepka. It was his highest ever finish in a major, and he’ll be hoping to carry on that form as he returns to the venue where he was T6 last year. 

The World No.10 is joined by Sergio Garcia and Martin Kaymer, who are both looking to return to form at a venue they have performed well at. Kaymer is a two-time champion in his home country, while Garcia has finished T2-T5 in the last two years. 

Meanwhile, players like Andy Sullivan and Thomas Pieters will be hoping to increase their chances at making the Ryder Cup squad this September.

Betting Tips: BMW International Open 

Tommy Fleetwood: 15/2
The unparalleled favourite this week, Fleetwood was T6 here last year and was just one putt away from tying Brooks Koepka at the top of the US Open leaderboard last week, but ended up 2nd for his highest ever finish in a major championship. Ranks 3rd for Scoring Average, 2nd for GIR and 8th for Birdie Average on the European Tour. 

Andy Sullivan: 14/1
Having an impressive 2018, Sullivan feels close to a victory. He’s had three top 10s in his last three starts on Tour, finishing 5th at the Italian Open in his last start. Ranks 6th for Scoring Average and birdies on the European Tour. 

Sergio Garcia: 14/1
After a victory and a few top 10s early on in the year, Garcia has struggled with his form since a MC at the Masters. With a best result of T70 in his last five events, Garcia is hoping to restart his momentum in Germany, where he finished T2 last year. 

Thorbjorn Olesen: 22/1
Missed the cut following his victory at the Italian Open, but we’re not ruling out anyone whose had a recent victory on the European Tour. Was 2nd here in 2016 and T34 last year in Germany. Ranks 18th for Birdie Average on Tour. 

Thomas Pieters: 25/1
Finished T14 in the Italian Open, which was his best result on the European Tour since a T5 at the Abu Dhabi Championship in January, and best worldwide since a T13 at the Honda Classic in February. Hasn’t teed up here since back-to-back MC in 2014-2015, but looking to regain some momentum. Ranks inside top 20 for SG: Approach the green and par-five scoring. 

Mike Lorenzo-Vera: 30/1
Still looking for his first European Tour victory, and has already come close this season. Has gone T19-T43-8-2 in his last four starts, as well as a runner-up finish at the team event GolfSixes. Ranks 5th for putts per GIR, 16th birdie average. 

Martin Kaymer: 30/1
Another player looking to regain some form, and what better venue that in his home country where he’s already won twice before? Has gone MC-T8-MC-MC-T42 in his last five starts. 

Lucas Bjerregaard: 33/1
Was T71 in his last start at the Italian Open but had three top 6 finishes in his previous three starts so he could be a strong bet here. Ranks 18th for GIR, 12th for birdie average on tour. 

Thomas Detry: 50/1
Has gone T36-T43-33 in his last three starts, and while that doesn’t sound patricularly impressive he is a collective 19-under-par in those last three events. He was also 2nd here on his debut last year with Sergio Garcia. 

Lee Slattery: 66/1
Finished 3rd at the Italian Open and followed it up with a T19 in his last start at the Shot Clock Masters so he’s clearly a man coming in with form. No particular stand out stats and MC here last year but was T13 in 2016. Best result at BMW International Open is T29 in 2015.
