The Open: Prize Money breakdown

The R&A have announced the prize fund for the 147th Open at Carnoustie. Find out below how much each player will earn at the third major of the year.
The R&A have announced that the total prize fund for The Open will be $10,500,000, and the Champion Golfer of the Year will take home $1,890,000.
Martin Slumbers, Chief Executive of The R&A, said, “The prize fund reflects The Open’s position as one of the world’s great sporting events and we look forward to seeing the best players in the sport competing for the Claret Jug at Carnoustie.”

Prize Money shall be allocated only to professional golfers.
If more than 70 professional golfers qualify for the final two rounds, additional prize money will be added. Prize money will decrease by $125 per qualifying place above 70 to a minimum of $13,500.
Non-qualifiers after two rounds: Leading 10 professional golfers and ties $7,375; next 20 professional golfers and ties $5,900; remainder of professional golfers and ties $4,950.
How does it compare to other majors?
Awarded in dollars for the second year in a row, the prize fund is $500,000 smaller than The Masters, where winner Patrick Reed took home $1,980,000. It’s also smaller than the US Open, where Champion Brooks Koepka claimed $2,160,000 of a $12 million dollar purse in June.
