Tiger Woods will make his return to PGA Tour golf in January at the Farmers Insurance Open
Woods announced today on social media that he will mark his return to the PGA Tour this year by playing in both the 2018 Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines (Jan 25-28), followed by the Genesis Open three weeks later (Feb 15-18).
His schedule will start, as usual, at Torrey Pines, a venue where he has won eight times. However, this year’s comeback looks a little different than last, as he is bypassing a return to Dubai – as they are scheduled for the same week. Last year Woods played Farmers and the Omega Dubai Desert Classic before withdrawing before the second round with back spasms, before going on to have his fourth back surgery.
Instead, Woods will take a two-week break after Torrey Pines before heading to the Genesis Open at Riviera CC, for his first appearance there since 2006.
“I’m very excited to be back at Riviera,” Woods said. “I haven’t played at Riviera in a tournament in a very long time. To be able to play in an event that I used to come to as an amateur, as a junior and now as the tournament host, that is on one of the most historic sites in all of golf, it’s a dream come true.”
Woods, most recently played in the Hero World Challenge where he finished 8-under in the elite 18-player field. The Hero World Challenge was Woods’ first tournament following nearly 10 months away from competitive golf. He shot 69-68-75-68 (280) as he tied for ninth.
