Sergio Garcia hits 5 balls in the water, ties highest ever score

Sergio Garcia had a horror start to the defence of his Masters title, hitting five golf balls in the water on the par-five 15th at Augusta during round 1
Garcia was 2 over par when he went for the par-five 15th green in two and found the water with his approach. He took a drop, but his wedge shot spun back in to the water… again. and again. and again. and again.
His ball finally held on the green with his 12th shot, before he holed his putt for a total of 13 – tying the all time highest score on an individual hole during The Masters at Augusta National.
Garcia ties Tom Weiskopf, who had a 13 at No. 12 in 1980, and Tsuneyuki “Tommy” Nakajima, who shot the same dreaded total at No. 13 in 1978.
He went on to finish his final three holes in birdie-par-par to end up with an 81 (+9) – the worst opening-round score by a defending Masters champion in history.
Afterwards, Garcia said of the 13: “It’s the first time in my career where I make a 13 without missing a shot. Simple as that.”
