2018 Masters: The best shots from Round 3
Published:
Saturday at The Masters was full of leaderboard changing birdie runs, eagles, and even a driver off the deck from Phil Mickelson
Leading the way in Masters highlight shots in Round 3 is the 54-hole leader Patrick Reed, who posted two eagles in three holes at the 13th and 15th – and they couldn’t have been more different. The first came from a brilliant approach and a 12 foot putt, while the second was a long range chip in from a difficult location.
Speaking of chip ins, Rory McIlroy’s chip in eagle on the 8th hole put him to five under in his first eight holes. After that, an impressive clutch putt for birdie on 18 was important, but perhaps not as important as his par-save escape from the Azalea bushes on the 13th.
McIlroy’s playing partner Henrik Stenson decided that putting was overrated on the 7th hole. Instead, he holed a shot from the sand to move to -5.
And in an almost carbon copy of McIlroy’s shot, watch as Jon Rahm found the bottom of he cup with his own pitch in for eagle on the 8th hole.
Doug Ghim made an eagle. Stop me if you’ve heard this before. The only amateur that made the cut at this year’s Masters made his third eagle of the week, meaning not only will he be taking home low amateuer honours but he’ll be leaving with three nice bits of commemorative crystal to boot.
Phil Mickelson grabbed the headlines early on after he whiffed his second shot of the day in the trees as he attempted to get his ball out of the dogwoods, but he was soon trending for another reason. Lefty set up his only eagle of the day with an impressive driver off the deck, and while we aren’t getting the Tiger-Phil Sunday battle we were hoping for, this is still pretty great.
