Tiger’s return: A timeline

Just over a month ago, Tiger Woods said in a Presidents Cup press conference that he was unsure of his future – but on Oct 30 the 14-time major champion confirmed his latest return to professional golf at the Hero World Challenge.

It’s a return to competitive golf quicker than anyone would have imagined when Woods said he was only hitting 60 yard shots at the Presidents Cup – but in a month’s time Tiger will mark his return at the Hero World Challenge for the second time.

In 2016, Woods made his long-awaited return at the Albany course in the Bahamas, and will do the same as part of an 18 man field from Nov 30 – Dec 3.

Following his return last year, he played just two more events – missing the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open and withdrawing from the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. Two months late he announced he had undergone a fourth back surgery which would see him sidelined for an approximate six months.

Since then, particularly in the past month, Woods has been hinting at a return by posting a series of videos – with the latest sparking speculation from his former swing coach Hank Haney that he would make his return at this year’s Hero World Challenge.

Woods then confirmed this on Nov 30, announcing his excitement at returning in a statement on his website.

“I am excited to return to competitive golf at the Hero World Challenge,” Woods said. “Albany is the perfect setting and it will be great to join this outstanding field.”

“I want to thank Pawan Munjal and Hero MotoCorp for their continued support of this tournament and my foundation. I would also like to thank the fans for their unwavering support during my injury.”
