Tiger Woods announces he will return to golf at Hero World Challenge

Tiger Woods has revealed through his website he will return to golf at the Hero World Challenge from Nov 30 – Dec 3rd at Albany, Bahamas.

Woods’ website revealed on Monday that the field for the Hero World Challlenge is filled out, with Daniel Berger and Woods occupying the final two spots.

It ends speculation that the Hero World Challenge would be a natural place for him to return if he was fit enough – given that Woods hosts the small-field event. It’s also where he made his long-awaited return to golf in 2016.

The 14-time major champion hasn’t played competitively since he withdrew from the Omega Dubai Desert Classic in February, and has been recovering from his fourth back surgery since April.

In the last month, Woods has posted a series of video updates of his progress on social media – and his former coach Hank Haney said just last week he believed Woods would make his return at the Hero World Challenge.

And now, in a post on his website, Woods stated that he will be returning to golf – with his appearance at the Hero World Challenge marking his first appearance back.

The full statement below;

“Following nine months away from competitive golf, tournament host Tiger Woods is set to make his return at the 2017 Hero World Challenge Nov. 30 – Dec. 3 at Albany, Bahamas.

“I am excited to return to competitive golf at the Hero World Challenge,” Woods said. “Albany is the perfect setting and it will be great to join this outstanding field. I want to thank Pawan Munjal and Hero MotoCorp for their continued support of this tournament and my foundation. I would also like to thank the fans for their unwavering support during my injury.”

Woods, whose TGR Live organization manages the Hero World Challenge, is a five-time winner of the event. Tiger Woods Foundation is the event’s charitable beneficiary along with the Tavistock Foundation and Bahamas Youth Foundation.”
