Fantasy Golf: Nedbank Golf Challenge

The Nedbank Golf Challenge hosted by Gary Player is the penultimate venue in the Race to Dubai, so this is a crucial event both for players and those in our Fantasy Golf game. 

Alex Noren claimed his fourth European Tour victory of the season with his six shot victory at Sun City last year, and comes in to this year’s event with two top 10s in his last seven starts. 

Justin Rose followed up his WGC HSBC Champions win with a triumph at last week’s Turkish Airline’s Open, which was the first time in his career he has won back-to-back tournaments. However, despite jumping up in to second spot in the Race to Dubai rankings, Rose has opted to sit this week out – handing the advantage to race leader Tommy Fleetwood. 

Fleetwood (1st) and Noren (8th) are just two of six players in the current top 10 in the Race to Dubai in the field. They are joined by Ross Fisher, Tyrrell Hatton, Francesco Molinari and Rafa Cabrera Bello, while Spaniards Sergio Garcia and Jon Rahm sit out along with Rory McIlroy.

Fantasy Golf Picks: Nedbank Golf Challenge

Tyrrell Hatton: Fantasy Price £13m
Having a phenomenal run of form, Hatton had back-to-back victories at the Dunhill Links and Italian Open a few weeks ago, and has since finished T11 at the WGC HSBC Champions and T16 at last week’s Turkish Airlines Open – which has been his worst result in his last six events. T25 here last year. 

Rafa Cabrera Bello: Fantasy Price £13m
It’s been a brilliant year for Cabrera Bello, and he’s followed up his win at the Scottish Open and 4th place finish at The Open with a number of good performances that have seen him rise to 7th in the Race to Dubai rankings and 20th in the World. His last five starts? T5-T11-T10-T33-T18

Matthew Fitzpatrick: Fantasy Price £11.5m
Fitzpatrick has been a consistently threatening figure ever since he claimed his second European Masters title, having not finished worse than T15 in his last six starts. He was 11th in Turkey and T9 the week before at the WGC HSBC Champions, so we wouldn’t be suprirsed if he went low again this week. T20 here last year. 

Tommy Fleetwood: Fantasy Price £10.5m
The Race to Dubai leader admitted he needs to find momentum, but he still comes in to the event in a favourable position with a chance to extend his lead over Justin Rose. He’s won twice this year already and hasn’t finished worse than tied for 25th in his last four starts, with his best result being a T6 at the Italian Open. 

Ross Fisher: Fantasy Price £10m
A disappointing T58 at the WGC HSBC Champions, but Fisher has proved he’s capable of performing when it counts – producing a course record on the Old Course at the Dunhill and a 63 in Italy on Sunday. Although these both were only good enough for second place, Fisher is definitely due his first win since 2014. Like Hatton, Fisher was T25 here last year.  

George Coetzee: Fantasy Price £9m
Three top 10s in his last six starts put Coetzee as a great pick to get in to contention this week. Although he was T25 last week, he finished T6 at the Italian Open, T7 at the Portugal Masters and T3 at the KLM Open, with a T15 at the British Masters and T47 at the Dunhill squeezed in between. 

Joost Luiten: Fantasy Price £10m
Luiten came very close to winning a couple of weeks ago, finishing 2nd to Sergio Garcia at the Valderrama Masters – and we feel he’s a pretty good bet this week. His last five starts: T16-2-T32-T36-T20

Kiradech Aphibarnrat: Fantasy Price £10m
It’s been a tough few weeks for Aphibarnrat, who has twice let his lead slip in the past three weeks, instead having to to settle for T6 last week and T2 at the Italian Open. It does show he’s on track for a win, as long as he can close it out. His last five starts? T6-T24-T2-T15-T20

Peter Uihlein: Fantasy Price £6.5m
A steal of a fantasy price. Uihlein hadn’t played on European soil since The Open but was still T14 last week, but seems to have gained a lot of confidence having won his PGA Tour card with a victory at the Nationwise Children’s Hospital Championship on the Web.Com Tour. Since then he’s had a brilliant outing in his first WGC event since 2013 prior to that (he finished T5), and finished T10 a few weeks before that at the CIMB Classic. 

Eddie Pepperell: Fantasy Price £6m
Our main man to watch this week, not just because of his low fantasy price. Pepperell has had three top 5s and three further top 10s in his last six starts, with just one missed cut in between. If he can keep this form going, there’s no reason why he can’t finally get it over the line to win his first European Tour title. His last seven outings? T6-T10-T7-MC-T3-T3-T5
