Open Qualifying: Four set to grab spots in Japan

The latest stage of the Open Qualifying Series is here, as four players are in with a chance of grabbing spots at the Gateway to The Open Mizuno Open in Japan this week.
Darren Fichardt, Stuart Manley and Paul Waring were the last three players to gain their spots at Royal Birkdale thanks to outstanding performances at the Joburg Open, and this latest stage in the competition is just the fourth event to take place so far.
This week, four players who finish in the top 12 and ties at the JFE Setonaikai Golf Club in Okayama (who are not already exempt) will earn a place in the 146th Open at Royal Birkdale from the 16-23 July.
In the event of a tie for a qualifying place, the player with the higher ranking in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) at the beginning of the week commencing 22 May will be awarded a place in The 146th Open.
Last year, it was Kodai Ichihara, Shugo Imahira, Sang-hee Lee and Hideto Tanihara who earnt their place at Royal Troon.
Following the Gateway to The Open Mizuno Open, there will still be seven opportunities to qualifying in the Open Qualifying series, which offer a combined 30 spots – 12 of which occur at Final Qualifying.
