Fantasy Golf: Nordea Masters
Last updated:
The European Tour arrives in Sweden this week, returning to Malmö for the first time since 2010 as several players eye-up their chances at the Nordea Masters.
While Henrik Stenson holds an advantage as he tees up at his home club of Barsebäck Golf & Country Club this week following a T3 finish at Wentowrth, he’s not the only Swede vying for the title. Fellow countryman Alex Noren went four shots better to grab the BMW PGA Championship title last week, and will be aiming to make it a hatrick of Nordea Masters victories to follow on from his triumphs in 2011 and 2015.
Meanwhile Matthew Fitzpatrick returns to the Nordea Masters as defending champion this week, and comes in to the event having just missed out on the top 10 at the European Tour’s first Rolex Series event at Wentworth.
So who should you pick for your Fantasy Golf team this week? Remember there is plenty to choose from as the PGA Tour heads to Muirfield Village for the Memorial Tournament and there’s plenty of the World’s top 10 in that field.
Make sure you’ve made your Fantasy Golf team changes by midnight, Wednesday 31st May!
Fantasy Golf Picks: Nordea Masters
Henrik Stenson: Fantasy Price £15m
Stenson heads back to home soil in a very good position, having finished T3 at the BMW PGA Championship last week and T16 at the Players a couple of weeks previous. Before that he had missed four cuts in a row, but the Open Champion has regained some momentum and is in a good position this week given his past results in this championship, of which he has two top-5s in the past three years.
Alex Noren: Fantasy Price £13m
The new BMW PGA Champion fired a new course record 62 on his way to his ninth European Tour victory last week, notching up the first win on the new Rolex Series. The World No. 13 also finished 10th at the Players Championship and 5th at the WGC Dell Match Play, so there’s no doubting his current form. Helped along with his victories here in 2015 & 2011 and a T12 in the event last year, a home tournament definitely looks to favour Noren this week.
Matthew Fitzpatrick: Fantasy Price £11.5m
Fitzpatrick has been playing a lot of golf over on the PGA Tour for much of the start of this year, and despite a couple of missed cuts recently, he’s had numerous top 20 finishes on the World Stage. Coupled with two top 5s in Europe early on in 2017 and a T12 at Wentworth last week, Fitzpatrick could be in with a chance of defending his trophy this week.
Lee Westwood: Fantasy Price £11m
In nine events Westwood has missed just one cut and had a top 10, three top 20s and just one result worse than T28. Last week’s T14 will give him motivation for the Nordea Masters, hoping to improve on his top 10 finish here last year.
Joost Luiten: Fantasy Price £10m
Luiten seems to have been knocking on the door a lot this year but has only broken in to the top 15 once, with six out of nine events resulting in top 30s. However, Luiten hasn’t missed a single cut this year and hasn’t finished worse than T39 at the WGC Dell Match Play, so he’s a safe pair of hands that is on the verge of a breakthrough.
Kiradech Aphibarnrat: Fantasy Price £10m
It’s been a run of fairly consistent results helped by his T14 finish last week at Wentworth, but other than a missed cut he had two top 22 results in a row.
Alex Levy: Fantasy Price £8m
Levy had a disappointing T54 result at the European Tour’s first Rolex Series event last week, but prior to that recorded a victory at the Volvo China Open, so he’s definitely had some good form this season. Other than his win Levy has had two top 10s in his last five starts and was T3 at this event in 2015, which was the last time he teed up here.
Nicolas Colsaerts: Fantasy Price £6.5m
Colsaerts was tied for 3rd with Stenson and Hideto Tanihara at last week’s BMW PGA Championship and narrowly missed out qualification for the US Open on Monday at Walton Heath. However, it shows he’s capable of shooting low numbers at the moment, and given that he finished tied for 3rd here last year, we reckon Colsaerts could be a good bet this week – especially given his low fantasy price tag.
