Fantasy Golf: AT&T Byron Nelson

Sergio Garcia could follow Tom Watson and become just the second person to win back-to-back AT&T Byron Nelson titles as he tees up as defending champion this week.

The field boasts four of the World’s top 10, but will be without the Players Champion Si Woo Kim, who has withdrawn for the fifth time this season with a back injury.

It’s a home state event for Jordan Spieth this week at the TPC Four Seasons Resort’s Las Colinas Golf Course in Irving, Texas – a par-70 course which was redesigned in 2007. There’s only two par-5s on the course, so we suggest you go for someone who is driving or scrambling well.

So who should be in your fantasy team that’s playing in the AT&T Byron Nelson this week? Meanwhile, don’t forget the European Tour heads to Italy for the Rocco Forte Open!

Fantasy Picks: AT&T Byron Nelson

Past Champions in the field: Sergio Garcia, Steven Bowditch, Brendon Todd, Jason Dufner, Keegan Bradley, Jason Day, Rory Sabbatini, Ernie Els

Dustin Johnson: Fantasy Price £15m
Honestly, it’s incredibly difficult to look past the World No.1 when he’s come back from injury to finish T2 and T12 in his last two tournaments. In five starts T12 was his worst finish, in a run that included three wins in a row.

Sergio Garcia: Fantasy Price £14.5m
The Masters Champion had a few weeks off before he went to the Players, and although he lit up the stadium course with a hole in one on the 17th hole it was a final round to forget for Sergio who ended up T30. Still, before he won the Masters his last finish in an event was T30. Mix that with two wins already in this tournament and two wins this season, Garcia is having a great year in 2017.

Jason Day: Fantasy Price £15m
Day is a big name, that’s for certain – but while he produced moments of pure magic last week, he still had an eight-over-par 80 in round 4 and ended up T60 at the tournament he was defending. His best finish in his last six starts is T22, but with a glimmer of the old Jason Day at some points during the Players– he might be poised for an in-form week. We’ll leave that for you to decide.

Jordan Spieth: Fantasy Price £15m
Spieth missed the cut at the Players Championship for the third consecutive year in a row, but that doesn’t deter from a pretty solid season for the former World No.1. In 11 events he’s had a victory, three top 5s, a top 10, a T11, a T12 and missed two cuts. He also seems to like the course in his home state, posting a T18 finish last year (due to a bad final round), and a T30 the year before.

Snedeker and Spieth

Brandt Snedeker: Fantasy Price £13.5m
Snedeker missed out on the Players Championship while he nursed an injured hand, but he returns to action this week looking to resume a good run of form. His last five starts? T11-T27-T17-T28-T7.

Brooks KoepkaFantasy Price £13.5m
There’s no denying his horrific start to the year, but Brooks Koepka has certainly found something recently. In his last five tournaments his worst finish was T16 at the Players Championship, with a 5th place and 2th place coming in the preceeding two. He was in our digital editor’s fantasy team last week, and having finished 2nd in the event last year to Garcia, he certainly won’t be moving this week.

Jimmy Walker: Fantasy Price £13m
The 2016 PGA Champion has played in 12 events in 2017, and it’s been a bit of a mixed bag. He’s had just one top 10 at the start of the year, but two top 20s in his last three starts. He finished T24 at last year’s event.

Louis Oosthuizen: Fantasy Price £13m
The former Open Champion is fresh off a T2 finish at the Players Championship, and has a worst result of T48 in the entire of 2017. He also came close to victory at the Pheonix Open back in February, but his best result at Nelson is T11 – which came back in 2014.

Ryan Moore: Fantasy Price £11m
Moore hasn’t missed a cut in seven starts, and with a top 10 at the Masters, he has certainly caught hold of some form. He’s not got the greatest record here having missed the cut both times, but he was T18 in his last start in a Texas event – so that might be in his favour.

Jason Dufner: Fantasy Price £9m
The 2012 champion has a great record here, and given that he hasn’t missed a cut since the Sony Open, he’s a pretty solid bet. He’s had three top 12s in his last seven tour starts, and a T5 at the Zurich Classic with Patton Kizzire.

Ryan Palmer: Fantasy Price £9m
Another player who fell victim to TPC Sawgrass, but Palmer had gone T6 and T11 in his previous two starts, so we wouldn’t discount him if you’re looking for a lower fantasy priced player. Palmer was the runner-up here in 2011, and has had one top-10 since in five starts.

Ollie Schniederjans: Fantasy Price £8m
Schniederjans has had a top-5 and two top 10s in 2017, and his last two strokeplay events have seen him finish T18 and T3. He’s missed two cuts all year and is a first timer at the AT&T Byron Nelson – but shown by his 11-under-total at RBC Heritage, he’s capable of going low.

Ian Poulter: Fantasy Price £8m
Considering just two weeks ago we thought Poulter had lost his tour card following a series of lacklustre performances, his second-place finish at the Players Championship was fairly remarkable. He came close too at the RBC Heritage in April, and seems to have a renewed faith in his game that could see him do one better this week.

Bud Cauley: Fantasy Price £7m
Cauley is playing some brilliant golf at the moment. His last three starts have been a T5 and two top 10s (the former with partner Justin Thomas at the Zurich Classic). He He’s low value in our Fantasy Golf game, so is worth a punt if you’re low on fantasy cash.

Sung-hoon Kang: Fantasy Price £5.5m
Kang is an absolute steal in our fantasy golf game if you look at his recent results. He finished T30 (the same as Sergio Garcia) in the Players, and while he missed the cut in the team-event Zurich Classic, his last three results before that were T6-T11-T2. He was also T34 at Nelson last year.
