Shaun Norris posts 65 as early conditions brings big moves
Last updated:
Shaun Norris was the first of the early morning, and by 1pm he’d already posted a five-under 65 to get back to level par and in a tie for 10th.
There’s barely a breath of wind in comparison to the first couple of days at Royal Birkdale, and the conditions are bringing with it some incredibly low scores.
Jason Day, Tommy Fleetwood and Branden Grace have been among the early movers, with hometown favourite Fleetwood finishing with a four-under 66 to put himself back to +1 overall and Grace making the turn in 29 to get to -1 and tied 6th with nine to go.

Day two in numbers
35-year-old Norris got off to particularly convincing start, with the South African birdieing three of the first five holes to reach the turn in 31 – the same as Rory McIlroy’s front nine score during round two.
Another gain came on the 10th before a final birdie on 17 during his flawless third round, and Norris was quick to praise the conditions for his great round.
“It was ideal conditions,” Norris said, “so we decided to take it on and play more agressively. It was good fun, I had a really good time out there”
“The fairways are a lot softer off the tee and you can actually get in there at the greens. My brother told me to take it on like any other day and just enjoy myself”
