Paula Creamer gets Solheim call-up after Korda withdrawl

Paula Creamer has been named as the latest United States Solheim Cup team member by Juli Inskter following Jessica Korda’s withdrawl.

The veteran Solheim Cup player was due to miss her first ever appearance on the American since turning professional, having been overlooked by Inkster as a wildcard pick in favour of rookies Angel Yin and Austin Ernst.

However, following Jessica Korda ruling herself out through injury, a space opened up on Inkster’s team – and she called upon the experience of Creamer to take her place at Des Moines next week.

Inkster chose Creamer as her alternate when she selected her team on Sunday night and informed the European team as required by the captain’s agreement. However, she did not publicly reveal her choice until after Korda withdrew on Monday due to a forearm injury.

“The reason why I put Paula in the hat was she’d be there,” said Juli Inkster to the LPGA. “She knows what’s going on. She has the experience. She’s playing well.”

“I’ve got a lot of faith & confidence in Paula. She reminds me a lot of myself as far as heart & grit”

This will be Creamer’s seventh Solheim Cup appearance, and with her exceptional record – it’s no surprise that she was the first player on Inkster’s mind.

In her six appearances she has notched up 16.5 points through a record of 14-8-5, which is the second highest points attained by an American Player in a Solheim Cup behind Inkster herself (18.5 in nine appearances).

“I’m very honored. I’m ready to wear red, white and blue for the seventh time,” said Creamer. “It’s pretty crazy and I’m excited, but it’s sad under these circumstances.”
