McGinley has his say on five Masters contenders

Paul McGinley has had his say on five Masters contenders with one big thing in common – they all use TaylorMade equipment.

Spaniards Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia have already won a title each this season, while World No.1 Dustin Johnson comes in to the Masters having won three tournaments on the bounce which includes both World Golf Championship events.

But what does the former Ryder Cup winning Captain make of each of the athletes?

Dustin Johnson:
TaylorMade have named him ‘The Powerhouse’, and the reasons why are obvious. The big-hitting distance machine is formidable, especially when on form. With rain at Augusta on Monday, a few extra yards from the tee are going to be a huge advantage.

Jason Day:
The former World No.1 has had a difficult past few weeks after announcing his withdrawl from the WGC Dell Match Play to be with his mother before surgery, but he enters the Masters hoping to make an impact. He finished T2 in the 2011 Masters and 3rd in 2013, and since then his worst result was T28 in 2015. He was tied for 10th in last year’s tournament, and it’s clearly a course he feels comfortable on.

Sergio Garcia:
One of the most consistent players on the PGA Tour, Garcia comes in to the Masters on a great run of form. He hasn’t often come in to the Masters with a win early on the season, but a victory at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic has been followed up by no worse finish than T49. Could this be the year he achieves his first major?

Jon Rahm
Rahm has certainly made an impact on the PGA Tour this year, with a victory at the Farmers Insurance Opens and convincing performances on the world stage. He finished 3rd at the WGC Mexico and lost to DJ in the WGC Dell Match Play finals – and comes in to the tournament with a top 10 at the Shell Houston Open. It would have been Seve’s 60th birthday on Masters Sunday – could he be the Spaniard to do it?

Justin Rose:
The Olympic Champion has an incredible record at the Masters, and he looks like his game is ready for it. Rose has had three top 5s in 2017 and his worst finish this year so far is T39. His Masters record is also pretty impressive – he hasn’t missed a cut in 11 appearances and has had 3 top 10s in his last five starts, which includes T2 in 2015.

What’s in the bag of every player this week at The Masters?
