MASTERS 2017: Players react to Sergio’s win
Last updated:
Sergio Garcia ended his long-overdue quest for a major title with victory at the Masters over Justin Rose, rolling in a birdie putt on the first play-off hole to clinch a major at the 74th time of asking.
To win on what would have been Seve’s 60th birthday was a fitting way to end to the 81st Masters, and Garcia took to twitter to thank everyone that helped to (finally!) make his dream come true.
He’s come so close so many times, but the 37-year-old Spaniard finally ended his major droubt – and then congratulations from the biggest name in the game began to flood in for him on social media.
Has there ever been a more popular winner? Runner up Rose was gracious in defeat, and one of the first to lead the congatulations to the newest champion along with the 2016 champion Danny Willett.
Garcia, who was two behind standing on the 15th tee, launched a come-back worthy of the green jacket, and former Champions Player, Schwartzel, Watson and Woods also passed on their well-wishes via social media.
And it didn’t stop there. The pin-point accuracy of the approach shots made for edge-of-your-seat viewing down the final few holes, and players praised both Rose and Garcia for their incredible final-hour duel.
