Jason Day is only 28 but he’s already talking about retiring

Thanks to greedy bankers and dodgy government, most people in their twenties today won’t retire until they’re about 119. When you’re a multi-millionaire golfer, however, you can decide to hang up your clubs whenever you want. 

Jason Day, world number one since March, says he’ll consider packing up when he hits 40.

“When I get to 40, I’m going to re-evaluate everything and go from there,” said 28-year-old Day. 

“When I get to 40, I would like to see where I’m at in my career, because I might want to go, ‘You know what, I’m done. I’m just happy with everything,’ and I’m going to go off my merry way and I’ll probably never pick up a golf club ever again.”

Day, who has experienced back problems, did say that he’ll carry on competing at the top level if his body allows.

“But it also depends on if [son] Dash is playing, if [daughter] Lucy is playing, if I’m still competitive and my body’s great, because I’m just trying to extend,” he said. “What I’m doing with my body and with my golf game, I’m trying to extend the longevity of my career.”

Day isn’t the first golfer to surprise us with premature talk of retirement.

“If I ever become number one in the world, ever, somehow, I’m walking away,” said Bubba Watson. “I’m going to walk away on top.”
