Chris Hanson

CHRIS-HANSON

England’s Chris Hanson has one of those surnames that is likely to be mispelt more often than not. He can expect a lot of “No, Hanson with an ‘O’” moments, but if Jordan Spieth (not Speith) is anything to go by, that doesn’t tend to do you any harm on the course.

Hanson’s sparkling second and third rounds of 63 and 66 put him in a very strong position at the halfway stage of European Tour Qualifying, which is a good job really, as a final-round 78 saw him finish at 7-under, with not a shot to spare.

Hanson has four EuroPro Tour wins under his belt, three of which came in 2011, which led to him topping the Order of Merit. That qualified him for the Challenge Tour for 2014, where he finished inside the top-ten on five occasions, including a career-high T3 at the Aegean Airlines Challenge.

Hanson qualified for the 2014 Open at Hoylake, where an opening-round 81 meant he was always struggling to make the cut. It will be valuable experience, though, as he takes his first steps on the European Tour next season.
