Fernandez-Castano wins in stormy Singapore

Spain’s Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano won a Monday play-off against Juvic Pagunsan to win the Singapore Open.
The 31-year-old sank a nine-foot birdie putt on the second play-off to secure his fifth European Tour career win.
American Anthony Kim finished tied-third with Louis Oosthuizen on 13-under-par while England’s Justin Rose clinched his place in the season-ending Dubai World Championship by finishing tied-ninth.
The tournament had already been reduced to 54 holes because of bad weather and the players were forced to return to the course on Monday after the play-off was cut short due to a threat of lightning late on Sunday.
Fernandez-Castano, who shot a stunning 10-under-par 61 in the second round, had holed a 20-foot par putt on Sunday evening just to get into the play-off after surrendering a four-shot lead on the back nine with three bogeys.
In the play-off, Pagunsan had a 10-foot birdie putt to win on the first play-off hole but it slid just wide. He then showed the Spaniard the line on the next play-off hole from longer range, again just missing for birdie, opening the door for Fernadez-Castano.
“This is probably the most nervous I’ve ever been on a golf course,” said Fernandez-Castano, who hadn’t won on the European Tour for over three years.
“[Sunday] was the type of pressure I have never felt before. I’ve never been in the lead with a four-shot margin going into the last nine holes. I hope I’ve learned from that.”
