It’s about to get really hot at The Open

The St Andrews fun and games are just about to start…
The delayed 2nd round has taken a while to get going in more ways than one, but everything should stop for tea: the fireworks are about to be let loose but overnight pacesetters Dustin Johnson (pictured), Jordan Spieth, Jason Day and Paul Lawrie.
This quartet, and a few others, have been kicking their heels in their rooms or clubhouse watching the likes of England’s Danny Willett, Scot Marc Warren and Aussie Adam Scott take centre stage and dominate the leaderboard.
It’s been a frustrating time for DJ, Spieth and co. and they will do well not to let that frustration show in their games and spill out onto the Old Course.
And they won’t find it easy either. Well, not quite as comfortable as the gentler conditions earlier in the day which Willett, Warren and the rest took full advantage of.
They will be aware that they will need to do their scoring on the front nine with the wind on their backs and hold on to what they’ve got coming home on the tougher, into-the-wind back nine. They’ll also be aware that the wind is whipping up…seemingly by the minute.
Owing to the three hours plus delay first thing, America’s big hitters Johnson and Spieth, chasing a historic Grand Slam of majors, won’t actually finish their 2nd round till tomorrow.
The fireworks are just about to be let off….and we haven’t even mentioned Tiger Woods who is about to commence his battle to make the cut.
