Amateur flying high at The Open

Hats off to Irish amateur Paul Dunne who literally qualified for The Open by the skin of his teeth.
The 22-years-old was the only amateur to come through Final Qualifying and did it in style at Woburn, back-to-back rounds of 67 giving him a three-stroke victory over Oliver Fisher.
It was a memorable occasion for the talented Irishman though it wasn’t without drama as he arrived on the first tee just a minute before his start time!
Studying at the University of Alabama and fresh from a Palmer Cup victory over America with Europe’s top college players, Dunne secured another 69 for a -6 total and clearly is a hot favourite for the Silver Medal. At least.
He managed four birdies and his only bogey came at the 16th but despite that blemish these Irish eyes were most definitely smiling.
