Who is playing for Team USA in the 2023 Ryder Cup?

The 12 players USA captain Zach Johnson will be hoping can secure Ryder Cup victory in Rome.

The 44th Ryder Cup takes place in Rome from 29 September – 1 October 2023, the first time the event has ever been held in Italy.

USA captain Zach Johnson will be hoping his 12 charges can build on a dominant victory in 2021 at Whistling Straits, with the Americans emerging 19-9 winners in a match delayed one year due to COVID.

But, if they are to win in Rome, the Americans will have to secure a first ‘away’ victory against Team Europe since The Belfry in 1993.

Let’s look at the players representing Team USA in the 2023 Ryder Cup and what their records look like. As w

Ryder Cup 2023: Team USA players

Scottie Scheffler is part of Team USA for the 2023 Ryder Cup

Scottie Scheffler – Ryder Cup record and stats

Age: 27
World ranking: 1st
Professional wins: 8
Major wins: 1
Ryder Cups played: 2021
Matches won: 2
Matches halved: 1
Matches lost: 0

The World No. 1 is frighteningly good tee-to-green and tops every relevant strokes-gained statistic. His putting is his only weakness, and he was something of a matchplay specialist prior to his four losses at the Presidents Cup. On his Ryder Cup debut, he was undefeated in three matches. He’s also been a winner, runner-up and semi-finalist in the WGC-Match Play.

Patrick Cantlay is part of Team USA for the 2023 Ryder Cup

Age: 31
World ranking: 4th
Professional wins: 9
Major wins: 0
Ryder Cups played: 2021
Matches won: 3
Matches halved: 1
Matches lost: 0

The joint top-scorer for the American team in 2021, Cantlay also boasts six wins from nine matches at the Presidents Cup. That’s a formidable record and while some of his team-mates find him slow, he’s linked well with his good friend Xander Schauffele. Together they’ve won six of nine matches across Ryder and Presidents Cups.

Brooks Koepka is part of Team USA for the Ryder Cup

Brooks Koepka – Ryder Cup record and stats

Age: 33
World ranking: 13th
Professional wins: 18
Major wins: 5
Ryder Cups played: 2016, 2018, 2021
Matches won: 6
Matches halved: 1
Matches lost: 5

Rejuvenated this year after a torrid 2022 that saw him doubting his future, Koepka’s won (and been consistent) at LIV Golf, finished second in the Masters, and secured Major No.5 at the PGA Championship. A solid matchplay performer, he also owns a sneaky victory in Italy, secured 10 years ago on the Challenge Tour.

Wyndham Clark is part of Team USA for the 2023 Ryder Cup

Age: 29
World ranking: 11th
Professional wins: 2
Major wins: 1
Ryder Cups played: None

It would have been outrageous to suggest he might make his debut at the end of last year, yet Clark has been sensational in 2023. A PGA Tour breakthrough at the Quail Hollow Championship in May was followed by a US Open triumph in June. Captain Zach Johnson will be excited about his ability to stay cool under the most intense pressure.

Jordan Spieth is part of Team USA for the 2023 Ryder Cup

Jordan Spieth – Ryder Cup record and stats

Age: 30
World ranking: 12th
Professional wins: 16
Major wins: 3
Ryder Cups played: 2014, 2016, 2018, 2021
Matches won: 8
Matches halved: 1
Matches lost: 7

A half with Tommy Fleetwood last time out was Spieth’s first return from a singles match in seven Ryder and Presidents Cups, but he is strong in fourballs (8-4-1) and team-mates must be begging to play with him in foursomes (8-2-2). His form in 2023 has been boom or bust, with plenty of top 10s but a lot of missed cuts.

Xander Schauffele is part of Team USA for the 2023 Ryder Cup

Age: 29
World ranking: 6th
Professional wins: 10
Major wins: 0
Ryder Cups played: 2021
Matches won: 3
Matches halved: 0
Matches lost: 1

Rory toppled him in the singles two years ago but before then he was a winning machine, twice with his friend Cantlay, plus a fourball success with Dustin Johnson. He remains ultra-consistent in both regular events and the Majors, and that resilience should make him a cornerstone of the team.

Max Homa is part of Team USA for the 2023 Ryder Cup

Age: 32
World ranking: 7th
Professional wins: 8
Major wins: 0
Ryder Cups played: None

The king of social media has had one eye on Rome ever since he won the first event after last year’s Ryder Cup. He passed his audition at the Presidents Cup, where he won two foursomes with Tony Finau, a fourball with Billy Horschel, then beat Tom Kim in the singles. In a minor triumph of 2023, he landed a first top-10 in a Major at The Open.

Brian Harman is part of Team USA for the 2023 Ryder Cup

Age: 36
World ranking: 9th
Professional wins: 5
Major wins: 1
Ryder Cups played: None

The pint-sized left-hander knows what it takes to perform in front of a crowd that doesn’t want you to win, after thrashing the field by six strokes at The Open. He insists he enjoys matchplay and the numbers back him up. He won five points from seven matches in the 2005 and 2009 Walker Cups.

Sam Burns is part of Team USA for the 2023 Ryder Cup

Sam Burns – Ryder Cup record and stats

Age: 27
World ranking: 21st
Professional wins: 6
Major wins: 0
Ryder Cups played: None

A riddle because Burns has won five times on the PGA Tour in three years but has continued to play dreadfully in the Majors. In 14 starts, his best finish is 20th. A win at the WGC-Match Play in March was big and much needed after his Presidents Cup debut, where he was paired with Scottie Scheffler on three occasions and lost every match.

Rickie Fowler is back in Team USA for the 2023 Ryder Cup

Rickie Fowler – Ryder Cup record and stats

Age: 34
World ranking: 26th
Professional wins: 10
Major wins: 0
Ryder Cups played: 2010, 2014, 2016, 2018
Matches won: 3
Matches halved: 5
Matches lost: 7

A man reborn in the season just gone, ticking off countless top 20s through the early months and then finding himself leading the US Open for most of the week. He rode the wave to claim the Rocket Mortgage Classic days later. Three of his four previous Cup appearances were in Europe, but his combined record is 1-6-5.

Collin Morikawa is part of Team USA for the 2023 Ryder Cup

Age: 26
World ranking: 22nd
Professional wins: 6
Major wins: 2
Ryder Cups played: 2021
Matches won: 3
Matches halved: 1
Matches lost: 0

The two-time Major man remains superb tee-to-green, which will make him a popular foursomes partner, but he is struggling to get the ball in the hole. Either side of New Year he lost two significant 54-hole leads, which seems to have knocked his confidence. He did share top-scoring honors on debut, though.

Justin Thomas will play for Team USA in the 2023 Ryder Cup

Justin Thomas – Ryder Cup record and stats

Age: 32
World ranking: 25th
Professional wins: 17
Major wins: 2
Ryder Cups played: 2018, 2021
Matches won: 6
Matches halved: 1
Matches lost: 2

After the high of his second PGA Championship victory last June, the US team’s top-scorer in the last Ryder Cup on European soil has gone backwards. The wins have dried up, so too have the top 10s, while he looked lost at The Open. His reputation and a partnership with Spieth helped get him a pick.
