Who’s in the 2025 PGA Championship field and what did they do to earn a spot at Quail Hollow? Here’s the full rundown…

The 2025 PGA Championship field is shaping up nicely, so let’s take a look at who’s already in as we edge closer to the second men’s major of the season.

Where is the 2025 PGA Championship?

We’re back at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, as the game’s biggest names look to be crowned the 107th PGA champion.

You’ll know this layout well. It hosted the the battle for the Wanamaker Trophy in 2017, when Justin Thomas was victorious, as well as the Presidents Cup five years later. It’s also been the home of the Wells Fargo Championship since 2003 – though it will move to Philadelphia Cricket Club for one year.

That’s good news for Rory McIlroy and his legion of fans hoping to see him end his 11-year wait for a fifth major. The Northern Irishman has won that particular tournament no fewer than four occasions – including his very first PGA Tour title in 2010 and last time out in 2024.

How do you qualify for the PGA Championship?

The PGA Championship is the only one of the four men’s majors which is explicitly for professional golfers only. (Though an amateur could technically qualify through several of the below criteria.)

It is also the only major that doesn’t grant automatic entry to the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking, though special exemptions are often handed to players in the top 100 who are not otherwise qualified.

The PGA of America, which administers the championship, also reserves 20 of the 156 spots for club pros. These are handed to the top 20 in the PGA Professional Championship, which is held a few weeks before the tournament.

There are currently 14 ways of getting into the PGA Championship. They are:

  1. All winners of any PGA Championship
  2. All winners of the last five Masters
  3. All Winners of the last five US Opens
  4. All winners of the last five Open Championships
  5. All winners of the last three Players Championships
  6. The top three on the Official World Golf Ranking International Federation Ranking List
  7. The current Senior PGA champion
  8. The top 15 (and ties) in the previous year’s PGA Championship
  9. The top 20 in the PGA Professional Championship
  10. The 70 leaders in PGA Championship points list (based on official money earned on the PGA Tour since the previous PGA Championship)
  11. The members of the most recent US and European Ryder Cup teams who are ranked OWGR top 100 as of one week before the start of the tournament
  12. Any tournament winner co-sponsored or approved by the PGA Tour since the previous PGA Championship
  13. Any additional players not included in categories 1-12 that the PGA of America deems worthy of an invite
  14. The first available players from the list of alternates (those below 70th place in official money standings) to make the field up to 156

Those already invited under category 13 include Joaquin Niemann and Sergio Garcia, who finished second and third in last year’s LIV Golf individual standings.

Now that’s sorted, let’s see who’s already in…
