THE OPEN 2021: Tee times and groups
The Irishman has been paired with US Open champion Jon Rahm, who remains the man to beat this week having failed to finish worse than tied 11th in his last 12 worldwide starts. He also has a proven track record on links courses with two Irish Open wins to his name.
All eyes have been on Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in the build-up (what's new?), but Dustin Johnson returned to the top of the world rankings on Monday and will fancy his chances of adding to his major haul having finished runner-up behind Darren Clarke at Royal St George's 10 years ago.
One man who's still waiting to breakthrough in a major is Lee Westwood, who could set an unwanted record this week for the most major starts of all time without a victory.
Rory McIlroy's winless streak in majors, which dates back to the 2014 US PGA Championship, probably feels just as long and while he will undoubtedly attract the biggest following in Sandwich, his preperations were hit with a missed cut at the Scottish Open last week.
