Super Scottie Scheffler shows Tiger-esque composure to win The Masters for second time

A performance for the ages! Scheffler now makes it two green jackets in just three years with a dominant display on Sunday at Augusta National
With the hunting pack primed to pounce on what looked to be a down-to-the-wire Sunday evening at Augusta, Scottie did what Scottie does best and that’s win! Ever since his first-round 66, Scottie Scheffler has proven why he was the bookmaker’s favorite in the build-up to the Masters. He has become the best ball striker we’ve seen over a three-year span since Tiger Woods. It was a display of sheer golfing excellence once again from Scheffler and he is now the fourth-youngest golfer to win multiple green jackets, behind Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Seve Ballesteros.
Scottie carded a superb four-under-par 68 in Sunday’s final round. As the likes of Homa, Aberg, and Morikawa looked to capitalize on the scorable conditions shown early on at Augusta, but so did Scheffler and all they could do was accept their fate as he proved once again why he is the undisputed world No.1.
On Sunday Scottie kept his cool when others couldn’t. When the chasing pack was dropping shots he was finding greens and making putts. Scheffler not only won the Masters on Sunday, he walked away with it once again. After the tree-toppling winds of the first three rounds, Scottie did well to maintain his composure on Saturday and ended up with the 54-hole lead.
As he headed into the final round with a one-shot lead over Ryder Cup compatriot Colin Morikawa, Scheffler got off to a solid start with back-to-back pars, he made a birdie three at the par-four third. But after a drop shot at four and another at the seventh the tournament seemed like it had blown wide open. When he dropped back to six-under It looked for a moment early in the round on Sunday we could have a four-way playoff on our hands but it certainly didn’t play out that way.
As the young Swede, Ludvig Aberg, looked to become the first man since Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979 to win the Masters at the first attempt. He misjudged his approach on the 11th hole and along with Morikawa in the group behind they both found the water, which resulted in double bogeys for the pair of them.
At this point, Scheffler had moved three clear with birdies on eight, nine, and ten. He made a bogey of his own on the 11th to reduce that lead back to just two. But after Max Homa played his tee shot on the 12th into the bushes behind the green it meant he would drop two shots also. It was then time for the Scottie Show! He went on to birdie both 13 and 14 in unbelievable fashion as he reiterated to everyone why he is the best golfer in the world.
After a well-composed par from the greenside bunker on 15 he would go on to place the ball 10 feet below the pin on 16 and could slowly relax as he slipped one arm into the green jacket. After avoiding the water on this tricky stretch, he proceeded to maintain his four-shot lead, after carding two pars on the final two holes, and was once again crowned the champion of Augusta National.
Scheffler has dominated the 2024 PGA Tour season so far with eight top-10 finishes out of a possible nine. Three of which have been victories at the Masters, the Players, and the Arnold Palmer Invitational netting him a whopping $11.6m in prize money. This victory at Augusta marks his second green jacket in just two years. He has only played in five Masters tournaments, his first in 2020, and he is yet to finish outside the top 20!
There is something about Augusta that brings this man to life. It’s reminiscent of the displays we became so accustomed to from Tiger Woods in the early 2000s. You often thought you’d have to rip Tiger out of the Green Jacket each year he was that good. This is exactly what we are seeing now with Scottie. He is putting on dominant display after dominant display and is something his beloved Texas Longhorns would be proud of.
