Scottish residents are eligible to win massively discounted St Andrews green fees.

Scottish golfers offered chance to play the iconic St Andrews Old Course for as little as £42.50 thanks to new accessibility initiative.

The World’s No. 1-ranked golf course has enjoyed a swashbuckling couple of years that’s seen it host the Women’s Open, introduce a digital daily draw booking system, and even offer the unique opportunity of retracing golfing folklore by playing the Old Course in reverse.

Nothing, however, will get the ears pricking up quite like a near 90% discount on tee times.

Well, Scottish ones at least.

Between May and October 2025, 179 tee times across the Old, Castle, Jubilee, and Eden courses will be made available to Scottish golfers at an 87.5% discounted price on the regular high-season green fees.

The St Andrews Links Trust’s new Drive initiative means that a round on the esteemed Old Course will be available for £42.50 rather than £340, while on The Castle Course, a round will cost £22.50, down from £180.

Neil Coulson, Chief Executive of St Andrews Links Trust, said: “As the Home of Golf, St Andrews Links Trust takes its responsibility to the sport incredibly seriously. That is why we are so excited to launch a new initiative offering golfers across Scotland the opportunity to play our historic and iconic courses at a lower price.

“Widening access to golf is a key objective for us, and over the coming years, we hope we can continue to provide opportunities to golfers of all ages and abilities.

“Golf has become increasingly popular in recent years, and with this demand for our courses has surged to unprecedented levels. We will continue to ensure that our ticket holders and visitors have the best experience possible, while ensuring that one of the country’s most precious golfing assets is available for the public too.”

It’s been well documented that green fees are creeping up, exponentially in places across the world, threatening to curb golf’s post-COVID participation surge.

Some courses in the UK are now charging over £1,000 per round, with average green fee costs having rocketed by approximately 10 percent since 2023, despite inflation expected to average below three percent for the same period.

A round at one of the top 100 courses in the UK in the summer now costs £220 on average.

It is why, as the custodians of the Home of Golf, St Andrews Links Trust has sought to buck this global trend by finding ways to make golf more accessible for all.

Players keen to participate will be encouraged to sign up in a two-ball ballot, and successful applicants will then be paired up and allocated a tee time.

Those who hold a current St Andrews Links Yearly Ticket are not eligible for this initiative.
