Netflix drops first Happy Gilmore 2 trailer

OK, now we’re excited…
The Happy Gilmore 2 hype train has pulled into its next station.
Netflix have released the first full trailer for the highly-anticipated sequel, which will be released later this summer.
The 90-second teaser starts inside PGA Tour HQ with a genuinely laugh-out-loud sight gag where we find out Gilmore – played by Adam Sandler – is one of four five-time Tour Championship winners.
Now math isn’t my strongest subject, but we make that four more titles for our eponymous hero in the time between the two films.
Then the Happy Gilmore 2 trailer starts to hand out nuggets of a plotline.
It looks like Gilmore is getting back into the competitive spirit as he is shown digging an old golf bag out of the attic while revealing that he hasn’t “swung a club in years”. Then, over clips of major champions like Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau smashing drives on a range, he adds: “I’m a little intimidated. All these guys hit it big now.”
We then cut to John Daly, kicked back in a chair with a beer, dishing out advice to Gilmore as he prepares for his return to the professional circuit. The ‘Wild Thing’, we assume-slash-hope, will play some sort of Mr Miyagi role.
On the tee, Gilmore – in his famous Boston Bruins jersey – announces he must change his “happy place to something more age appropriate” before we move into a montage of clips to the soundtrack of Pilot’s ‘Magic’, a song that’s now synonymous with the original movie.
In this, we see returning stars Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald), Virginia Venit (Julie Bowen) and Hal (Ben Stiller), as well as a range of new characters.
Of course, there’s time for one more joke before it ends, but we don’t want to spoil it, so here it is…
Happy Gilmore 2 trailer
I think I speak on behalf of all fans of Happy Gilmore, The Sandman, golf, and cinema in general when I say: please – PLEASE – don’t be bad.
This trailer, though? It’s promising. You might say it’s magic.
