Charley Hull has made as many headlines in recent months for her love of cigarettes as she has her golf game.

But it looks like this may be the last after the two-time LPGA champion vowed to quit – even putting a boatload of cash on the line in a bid to kick the habit.

In a post on her Instagram, Hull told friend and fellow pro Ryan Evans that she’s giving up smoking. And there’s plenty in it for him if she fails.

“Today,” she tells the camera, “I’ve made the decision – I’m going to stop smoking. I’m going to give them to Ryan now.”

Then, to Evans, she says: “I’m going to do a 10-grand bet with you that, and I get no money in it, but if I pick up a cigarette in the next two months, I’ll give you 10-grand. And I’ll shake on that.”

“Deal?” she asks, before Evans jokes that “I’ll have to record you 24 hours a day”.

“I promise you I won’t,” Hull says, before asking Evans to “chuck them in the bin for me”.

Hull went viral at last year’s US Women’s Open, with even the likes of World No.1 Nelly Korda getting in on the joke.

“I find it quite funny,” she said at the time. “I actually do go to the gym and I’m a very healthy person.

“I only smoke. I hardly drink. I don’t need to drink because, actually, I can have a fun time without it.

“My dad smokes 40 a day since he was 12 years old and now he’s 75, and my nephew smokes who is like 25. My whole family smokes, so it’s not something that I’ve noticed being odd.

“I hate smoking. I used to curse at my dad when I was younger for smoking, but I think it’s to do a little bit when I’m stressed.”

Hull will instead turn her attention to running. She said in a recent press conference that she had become addicted to running and her goal was to get her 5k time down to 20 minutes. She also claimed that she has “zero interest in training for golf”.

One thing’s for sure, it’s never boring when Charley Hull is in the spotlight.
