Thorbjorn Olesen remains suspended by European Tour after appearing in court

Thorbjorn Olesen remains suspended by the European Tour after being charged with sexual assault on a BA flight from Nashville to London in July

Thorbjorn Olesen will remain suspended by the European Tour until at least December 13 after being been charged with sexual assault, being drunk on an aircraft and common assault.

The 29-year-old Danish golfer was met by police at the airport on the 29th July after travelling on a BA flight from Nashville to London Heathrow following his T27 at the WGC FedEx St Jude Invitational in Memphis, and was accused of molesting a woman and urinating in the aisle, as well as failing to comply with the orders of cabin crew on the BA flight.

He was originally released ‘under investigation’ before being charged by ‘postal requisition’, and previously indicated he would plead not guilty to the charges when he appearaed at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court last month.

Olesen then appeared at a short court hearing at Isleworth Crown Court on Wednesday in relation to the charges. A plea hearing date was set for December 13, while a provisional trial date was given – of May 11, 2020, which is expected to last five days.

He was released on unconditional bail.

The European Tour had originally suspended the golfer from the Tour “pending the outcome of legal proceedings,” and said in a statement to the Associated Press on Wednesday that Olesen “remains suspended from the European Tour while the case continues.”

They did not say whether this would change after the plea hearing in December.
