Inside Carnoustie’s new £5m clubhouse

Inside Carnoustie’s new clubhouse: This is where the Pro’s will be hiding out and even hitting balls during The Open

If you’ve ever wondered how the other half live, take a look inside Carnoustie’s spectacular new clubhouse. The £5 million building, which only opened to members and visitors in April, will be converted into a lavish “players’ lounge” during The Open week and our experience suggests Rory & Co are in for a treat.

The Links House building sits just a wedge away from the first tee and hotel. Spread across two floors, golfers are immediately greeted by the smell of freshly-baked pastry and an atrium which wouldn’t look out of place in a stately home. A grand staircase leads to a bar and restaurant where you can tuck into steak and lobster or kick back on the veranda overlooking the first tee and 18th green. If it’s wet there’s a viewing gallery inside, a swanky pro shop and seven simulators with the choice of 14 courses to play – including Carnoustie itself.

“This is a facility we’ve been very excited about getting our hands on and we see it as a precursor for a similar facility each year,” said Rhodri Price, the R&A’s director of championship operations.

“It will encompass everything the player needs under one roof. Players’ service department, caddie facilities, there’s a lounge area, locker rooms and bag storage, and anti-doping. Sky will have a section here, all dining facilities will be upstairs and registration, too. It has a players’ gym and physiotherapy will be available there. Players will not have to move around from temporary buildings to permanent buildings.”
