Charity golfers to cycle 80 miles and play 18 holes at 16 golf courses in ONE DAY

Eight friends from Cambridge are set to embark on a unique mid-summer golf and cycling challenge to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice.
The event, aptly named ‘Rider Cup 2017’, will see eight golfers play 18 holes on 16 different golf courses within the available 17 hours of daylight on June 15.
Not such a difficult feat you may think – but the hardy bunch will be cycling between all 16 courses, a total of around 80 miles.
The brains behind the challenge is Ray Cooper, who saw his brother-in-law Chris Brown lose his fight with Motor Neurone Disease on December 30, 2016, aged just 56.
Cooper said: “Seeing my brother-in-law Chris’ body slowly shut down, initially with speech loss, and then gradually lose the ability to move his arms and legs and ultimately lose his life, made me realise we can’t take anything for granted. I wanted to push myself physically in his memory and I’m so pleased that I have seven friends who will be at my side.”
The tour starts at Kingfisher GC in Bedfordshire at sunrise (4.43am) and ends at St Neots GC in Cambridgeshire, where they will play the final three holes just before sunset at 9.20pm.
Other golf clubs taking part in the tour include Abbey Hill, Windmill Hill, Wavendon, Woburn, Aspley Guise, Milbrook, Bedfordshire, The Bedford, Beds & County, Pavenham, Colworth, Mowsbury, Colmworth and Wyboston.
