What’s the most you’ve ever paid for a round of golf? £20? £50? Maybe £100 or more for somewhere really special? 

One thing’s for certain, we’d give almost anything for the chance to play Augusta National.

Four weeks’ wages? Absolutely.

£60,000? Ah, we might have a problem here. 

That was the sum West Bromwich Albion midfielder James Morrison bid for a round at Augusta during last night’s Petrov Foundation Dinner.

Established in 2013, the foundation’s purpose is to revolutionise the way leukaemia and cancer are treated by developing more practical and effective processes for treatment, re-lapses and prevention of illness.

29-year-old Morrison, who earns a reported £15,000 a week, was born in Darlington and represented England at under-17, under-18, under-19 and under-20 level, before choosing to represent Scotland at senior level. 

Morrison’s season has been blighted by a knee injury which has limited him to just 18 appearances for West Brom. 

Morrison will soon have plenty of time to tee it up at Augusta and wherever else he fancies, as Scotland are the only home nation to have failed to qualify for this summer’s European Championships.

With countless keen golfers in the Premier League, he won’t be short of offers to make up a four ball.
