It’s official! The UK is the hole-in-one capital of the world
Published:
When it comes to the most elusive accomplishment in golf, the UK performs better than any other country in the world.
That’s according to data compiled over three millions rounds of golf by Hole19 – the GPS and scoring app – which found that the UK is responsible for the most aces on the golf course.
Between April 2014 and January 2016, 15% of 6,400 hole in ones came in the UK – more than double its nearest rival Germany.
So if you are one of the minority to have achieved such a feat, kudos for joining Jamie Vardy and co by getting one over the Germans. It probably softens the blow of that bar bill as well.
In Numbers:
- 25th – The UK’s ranking for average putts per round (34.9). Denmark leads the way with an average of 32.8 putts per round.
- 60.2% – The amount of fairways hit in regulation by golfers in India – nearly 15% more than in the UK. Clearly we favour power over precision
- 14.2 – The average handicap of golfers in Finland. The standard in the UK isn’t quite so strong, as an average handicap of 19.8 testifies.
- Four hours, three minutes: The pace of the play in the UK is bettered only by New Zealand. It takes an extra nine minutes to complete a typical round in the States.
- 7,316 yards: The average course length in Mongolia. That’s more than four miles per 18 holes.
