Travelers Championship: Russell Knox wins despite Jim Furyk’s 58

Jim Furyk might have enjoyed being the first player in PGA Tour history to shoot a round of 58 but it wasn’t enough for the American to claim victory at the Travelers Championship.

Scotland’s Russell Knox was victorious after a two-under par final round of 68 to hold off Jerry Kelly by one shot.

Furyk carded 10 birdies and an eagle in his bogey-free round of 12 under par to finish on 11 under tied for fifth with Daniel Berger, Robert Garrigus and Tyrone van Aswegen.

Knox becomes the only player, outside the world’s top ten, to enjoy multiple wins in the 15- season, putting him contention as a possible wildcard for the Euopean Ryder Cup Team.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” said Knox.

“I mean, golf is so difficult, you lose every week pretty much, and to make that putt, I mean, it’s just the greatest feeling ever. I wish I could share it with you.

“Yeah, I think it’s big. I’m not saying everyone can win a tournament. I mean, it’s — four days, you can finish first. You can get hot.

“But if you do it again, then it’s like, okay, well now I can start believing in myself even more and be like, okay, I’ve beaten everyone over four days two times now.

“I think it was big for me. I made it a big deal. I finished second three times since I’ve won, and I mean, I really wanted to get another one so I could really show myself that I can win multiple times. And to do it in one season is pretty amazing.”
