Ryder Cup wildcard betting suspended at eleventh hour

With just hours to go until the official announcement on Europe’s wildcard picks, William Hill have suspended betting on Luke Donald being named as Darren Clarke’s final pick.

The decision was made after a rush of bets in shops around the North East of England backed his odds in from 7/1 to 6/4 in the space of just an hour.

“At the time of suspending Donald was 6/4 fourth favourite however, the rate with which people were laying him suggests that if we were to reopen the market, we would likely be 1/100 for him to make the side,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

“As a betting man, I would say that Donald has snuck into the team.”

Odds at the time of suspending:

1/100 Kaymer

1/50 Westwood

1/3 Pieters

6/4 Donald

9/4 Knox

9/1 McDowell
