Fantasy Golf Preview – The Barclays 2016

The Barclays has undergone a series of name changes and next year it’ll be known as The Northern Trust but one thing hasn’t changed it is always a highly competitive few days golf.

The tournament was first staged in 1967 and has been the first leg of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup since its inception in 2007.

The stakes are high becuase at the end of the event, the top 100 on the standings move on to TPC Boston for the Deutsche Bank Championship next week.

Including Jason Day this weekend is a must for us, the World number one and defending champion will go off the bookies favourite and the Australian promises to be the pace setter and we think he will take some stopping.

Fresh from winning a silver medal at Rio2016, Henrik Stenson will be looking to continue his great run of form and if anyone can upset Day the Iceman can.

You might have to swap your team about to invest in Day and Stenson but it’s a deathly combination and we can’t really see anyone else troubling the duo this week.

For those of you looking for a bargin buy, Jhonattan Vegas is well worth a look having recently enjoyed the sweet taste of success and if he can maintain his form of late then he stands a decent chance of achieving a decent finish.

With Darren Clarke pondering his Ryder Cup wildcard picks, it is worth thinking about including Luke Donald this week, he impressed last time out and has a point to prove and we fancy him to perform well under pressure.

Here’s a look at the last five winners of the Barclays:

2015 – Jason Day -19

2014 – Hunter Mahan -14

2013 – Adam Scott -11

2012 – Nick Watney -10

2011 – Dustin Johnson -19
