If you haven’t booked accommodation for The Open yet, why not camp instead?

"Mind if I just pitch up here, guv?"

Accommodation near The Open venue gets booked up early ever year, and doesn’t tend to come cheap. If you haven’t got yours sorted already, you’re likely to be facing extortionate prices, a long daily journey to the course, or both. 

Unless you don’t mind sleeping in a tent, that is. 

The Open Camping Village will be located near to the course when The Open vists Royal Troon this July. 

There will be space for 500 campers, divided into two-, four- and six-person tents. They all come kitted out with inflatable beds, and the village itself will have showers, food and drink stands, and parking. 

The only catch is that you have to be under-25 to stay there, or have children under-16 in your group. 

“The Open is a wonderful opportunity for young fans to get up close to their favorite players and we know this will help inspire future generations to pick up a club and take part themselves,” says Johnnie Cole-Hamilton, executive director of championships at the R&A. “Our aim is to make The Open as accessible as possible and the new Camping Village along with discounted Youth Tickets and the Kids Go Free program are key parts of this commitment.”

We think this is a great idea by the R&A, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see all the places snapped up. 

And the best news of all? The tents are all pre-pitched, so there’ll be no faffing around with pegs and poles in the middle of the night when you arrive.
