the open kj putting

Putting, they say, is a very personal thing.

For KJ Choi it’s exceedingly personal! He has adopted a very odd-looking croquest-style of putting for The Open at St Andrews. He has even got a putter modified to accommodate is unique putting style.

He stand facing the hold with the putter, made extra heavy and with a bottom grip added, facing the hole. He then stps slightly to the side and ploacs his right hand on the bottom grip. The it’s almost a crquest stroke to guide the ball to the hole.

He hasn’t putted badly this week wither, but at six over will miss the cut.

When asked why he has adopted the strange style he said: “I believe in the theory and I believe in the principle behind it. I’ve worked hard and I’ve practiced hard. I’m convinced this is the right way to go. I’m not looking back.”

Sam Snead tried putting with a croquet style, until the U.S. Golf Association passed a rule that a player couldn’t straddle the ball while swinging on the green.

Choi complies with that standard by standing beside the ball when he’s putting, facing the cup.

Choi has not got a great record at The Open and was unlucky to face some of the very worst weather during the second round at St Andrews.
