New Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls – what’s changed and which one is best for your game?
Last updated:
Titleist are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the No.1 ball in golf in 2025 with new versions of the Pro V1 and Pro V1x. Here’s everything you need to know about both models.
The Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls have been the best golf balls in the game ever since they were first introduced in 2000 (Pro V1) and 2003 (Pro V1x). In 2025, the Pro V1 is celebrating its 25th anniversary. To mark this special anniversary, Titleist launched new Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls that have been improved to deliver more than any previous iteration. That means more speed off the tee, more control with the irons, and more spin with the wedges.
When I first heard about the new 2025 Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls, I questioned how Titleist could possibly improve the most popular, best-selling golf balls on the planet… but they’ve found a way.
Titleist generated intrigue around the 2025 Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls when they launched on the PGA Tour at the Shriners Children’s Open in October 2024. Within six weeks of both models launching on the PGA Tour, they achieved four global victories (Pro V1 earning one and Pro V1x winning three), and more than 40 players on the PGA Tour had switched to the 2025 models by the RSM Classic (five weeks after the Shriners Children’s Open).
Key technology of the 2025 Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls
What’s new in the 2025 Titleist Pro V1 golf ball?
Faster high-gradient core
The faster high-gradient core has been completely reformulated to produce more speed along with increased iron and wedge spin for more control.
Spherically tiled 388 tetrahedral dimple design
The 2025 Pro V1-specific dimple design optimizes distance and delivers a penetrating and consistent flight.
Speed amplifying high-flex casing layer
The speed-amplifying high-flex casing layer contributes to low long-game spin.
Urethane Elastomer Cover
Excellent greenside spin is achieved thanks to the urethane elastomer cover.
What’s new in the Titleist Pro V1x golf ball?
New faster high-gradient dual-core
The solution for the newest generation Pro V1x was found in the chemistry of the high gradient dual-core. Titleist engineers were able to steepen the so-called “spin slope,” effectively maintaining low spin off the tee while increasing spin with the scoring clubs.
Spherically tiled 348 tetrahedral dimple design
The spherically tiled 348 tetrahedral dimple design has been optimized for high flight with even more consistency.
Speed amplifying high-flex casing layer
Low long-game spin is attributed to the 2025 Pro V1x’s speed-amplifying high-flex casing layer.
Urethane Elastomer Cover
The urethane elastomer cover works to deliver outstanding greenside spin.
Is the 2025 Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball better for your game?
Who is the Titleist Pro V1 for?
The Pro V1 sports a three-piece construction. This golf ball offers the greatest combination of speed, spin, and feel in the game. The Pro V1 has a mid-flight trajectory, low long game spin, maximum short game spin, and is a soft-feeling golf ball.
Who is the Titleist Pro V1x for?
The Pro V1x is a four-piece golf ball with a high-flight trajectory, low long game spin, generates increased spin on full swing shots, and has a firmer feel compared to the Pro V1.
What Titleist say about the 2025 Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls
Frederick Waddell, Director, Golf Ball Product Management
“The golf ball has to do everything. It’s never just about maximizing one area – golfers need performance on every single shot.
“Each of our golf ball models is optimized for distance off the tee, and with 2025 Pro V1 and Pro V1x in particular, we’ve realized a speed gain while unlocking even better iron and wedge performance. All of which will help players shoot lower scores.”
Mike Madson, Vice President Titleist Golf Ball R&D
“We’re always trying to improve the golf ball in some way, and it’s all driven by golfer feedback. We start by talking with the best players in the world, who help us define what better is for both Pro V1 and Pro V1x.
“The goal is to help golfers score better, and to do that, we’re going to use every tool we have in the toolbox.”
Jeremy Stone, Titleist’s Senior Vice President, Golf Ball Marketing and U.S. Sales
“What’s really inspiring is the fact that one idea opens the door for the next.
“The New Pro V1 and Pro V1x build upon innovations introduced in 2023, which improve upon our efforts in 2021 and 2019.
“There are no shortcuts. I think what golfers will see in 2025 Pro V1 is a product of constant innovation, and one we know is better than what came before it.”
