Tiger Woods takes to Riviera in new Sun Day Red apparel

After announcing his new premium active lifestyle brand, the 15-time Major winner gave us our first glimpse of life post-swoosh.
Returning to PGA Tour action for the first time since October 2020, Tiger Woods’ latest reincarnation had a distinctly different feel, as he brought to life his newly announced Sun Day Red apparel.
Opting for understated style, Tiger donned a black shirt, black pullover, black hat, and white pants as he introduced the TaylorMade-partnered venture to the golf world.
Perhaps most surprising, however, was that the FootJoy golf shoes he switched to post ankle surgery were no more, now replaced with a black pair of Sun Day Reds, sporting the 15-striped tiger logo against a snakeskin red heel.
The new look has certainly split opinion, and was always bound to given the gravity of separation from the greatest athlete-brand relationships the game has ever seen.
The abstract tiger logo with 15 stripes is said to represent each of Tiger’s Major victories, and the name ‘Sun Day Red’ originates from Wood’s tradition of wearing a red polo on the final day of a tournament.
According to TaylorMade CEO David Abeles, the phase ‘Sunday Red’ was strategically broken into three words due to the ‘Rule of Threes’ which is a powerful principle in marketing communication that suggests information presented in groups of three is more memorable, engaging, and persuasive.
Clothing and footwear were not the only new additions for Woods this week, chasing a record-breaking 83rd PGA Tour win at The Genesis Invitational.
Lance Bennett will carry Tiger’s bag around Riviera Country Club which may feature a new TaylorMade Qi10 Tour fairway which Woods was seen practicing with alongside his trusty TaylorMade SIM 3-wood. The veteran looper became available after PGA Tour newcomer, Adrien Dumont de Chassart – who he works full time with – failed to qualify for The Genesis.
Tiger will also game the new Bridgestone Tour B X golf ball.
Alongside clothing and footwear, Sun Day Red has filed for other trademarks in categories including golf gloves, eyewear, and luggage.
The first line of apparel for men will go on sale from May 1 in the US and Canada before expanding into other international markets with women’s and kid’s lines also on the horizon.
Speaking at Sun Day Red’s announcement, Tiger said: “There are things that I could tell you that no one knew I was doing over the years. I’m ready to share those secrets with the world.
“Sun Day Red will embody a love of playing and competing, and we are for people who share those values, whether it’s on the course, or in life. We will be anchored to putting the athlete first in the product decisions we make.”
Victory at Riviera over a star-studded field that includes 23 of the top 25 players in the world rankings may be a stretch, even for talents of Tiger proportions. Making the cut will represent an excellent comeback and give Sun Day Red a full week of prime-time exposure on the PGA Tour.
Scottie Scheffler is the clear pre-tournament favorite from Rory McIlroy and a strong field full of Ryder Cup stars. Tiger will joined by other Californian home-grown players including Patrick Cantlay, Rickie Fowler, Max Homa, and Colin Morikawa.
