TaylorMade Golf launches Black Series for their most popular putter

The Spider Tour range is being updated for 2025 with a new darker finish and tour-requested neck options. Available now for you

For a while now, there’s been little doubt of the success of the TaylorMade Spider Tour range, but it feels like 2024 took it from being a high-flying series to a story approaching Space Shuttle status. With the putter seen in the hands of world number one Scottie Scheffler during his incredible year, a golfer whose previous putting woes were well-documented, TaylorMade seemed to put down a marker for golfers worldwide to show how seriously they take this part of their line-up.

Featuring TaylorMade’s patented Pure Roll insert, a combination of Aluminum and Surlyn (a material often used in golf ball design), the TPU material enhances feel for the golfer at impact. The groove design in Pure Roll also increases performance, with the 45º angle the grooves are set into the insert helping to generate a smoother, more consistent roll for the golf ball, along with improving sound and feel.

Pure Roll’s softer feel is paired with the HYBRAR Echo Dampener previously seen in the Spider line-up. HYBRAR is situated behind the face of the putter to quieten unwanted vibrations, further enhancing aural feedback for TaylorMade’s softest-ever feel.

There’s also True Path alignment, the white guide on the crown of the putter, to make sure you’re both square to the target at address as well as create a stronger visual of where the putter is during the motion of the stroke, a great way for golfers to judge whether they are opening or closing the face too much as they play.

Finally, the Spider Tour family is built with Thin Wall Undercut Construction, a structural design that helps to remove weight while retaining strength, allowing TaylorMade to redistribute that saved mass further rearward to increase MOI (Moment of Inertia) and forgiveness.

Does it come in black?

With 2025 around the corner, the TaylorMade Spider series is getting a big cosmetic upgrade. This upgrade was so often requested through TaylorMade’s MySpider custom program that it deserved its own mainline release.

The new Black Series is exactly what you’d expect from the name, with the body framing the True Path Alignment now coated in a PVD Finish that will absorb light instead of reflecting it back toward you: this further highlights True Path, making it even easier to set up in the correct position. TaylorMade also says this new finish is more durable than before, so there should be no fear that long-term wear and tear will diminish the color.

To complete the look, orange accenting has been added to the sole plates and rear bumper of every model, creating a dramatic contrast that looks fantastic in any light. Traditionalists don’t need to panic, though – none of the pumpkin-tinted plating can be seen from the address position!

Models and Availability

Bad news if you’re Shane Lowry. The Spider Tour Black Series will only be available in three models, the Spider Tour, Tour X, and Tour S. The Tour V and Tour Z models haven’t proven as popular so TaylorMade is only offering the Black Series in the heads that golfers have been overwhelming interested in since the original models were released last year.

Each putter will also come with a Superstroke Pistol GT1.0 Grip and a KBS CT Stepless shaft, both in matching black colorways.

TaylorMade Spider Tour Black Series putter comparison

Spider Tour

This classic TaylorMade Spider shape is what golfers will be most familiar with. The noticeable feature of the Spider Tour is the rear-flanged weights, placed there to increase forgiveness while also providing a confidence-inspiring size. The Spider Tour is available in TaylorMade’s #3 Neck, the short slant, in 33-35″ length, as well as a Counterbalanced version that comes in a Double-Bend neck at 35″ only. The #3 Neck is for both Right and Left-Handed golfers. The Double-Bend CB is RH only.

Spider Tour X

The model that Rory McIlroy has famously switched into when it first launched in 2019. The Spider Tour X has a reduced size compared to the Tour model; you’ll particularly notice that the rear perimeter weighting has switched from externally mounted to internally, producing a sleeker, more compact profile. The Spider Tour X is available in TaylorMade’s #1 (L-Neck/Plumber’s Neck) and #3 (Small Slant) neck options between 33-35″ length, in both Right and Left-Handed options.

Spider Tour S

The Spider Tour S is exactly the same as the Spider Tour, with the exception of the S model being built to a larger proportion compared to the standard model. This has been done to promote an ever bigger area of forgiveness on the putter’s face as well as allow for additional weight placement to balance out the ‘long’ version of this head. The Tour S is available in Double-Bend counterbalance at 38″ only, for both RH and LH. The Center-Shaft Long model comes in at 46″ and is only available for Right Handed golfers.

The TaylorMade Spider Tour Black Series is available in Retail from today, December 12th 2024.
