New Odyssey putter surfaces at The Players – but haven’t we seen this before?

An as-yet-unreleased Odyssey zero-torque putter was seen on the practice green at TPC Sawgrass. Here’s everything we know so far…

Odyssey aren’t novices in the zero-torque putter sphere.

In 2024, the brand behind some of the best putters in the game launched the Ai-One Square 2 Square putter range, and it looks as though they’re adding to their line-up of zero-torque putters with a very similar design to one of their competitors.

A few days later, at the Valspar Championship, more pictures were published by Golf WRX…

If you’re putter nerds like us, we know what you’re thinking. Odyssey‘s new model that looks an awful lot like the hugely popular L.A.B. Golf DF3.

Of course, this isn’t the first time a rival company has taken inspiration from another brand’s design, and it’s not the first time Odyssey have adapted a competitor’s putter design to manufacture their own version – the Odyssey Ten looks very similar to the TaylorMade Spider, for example.

However, Odyssey aren’t the only brand to do this, and they fall victim to it themselves. There are a wide range of putters on the market that are based on the famous Odyssey No.7, and it happens almost every year when new putters are introduced.

With L.A.B. Golf having made waves in the sport in the past couple of years, it’s no surprise that brands are looking at their designs to see what they can learn.

There are a lot of similarities between the Odyseey zero-torque putter and L.A.B. Golf DF3

We contacted Odyssey to discuss the new model and the DF3 comparisons, but they declined to comment ahead of the model’s launch. We also reached out to L.A.B. Golf, who would also prefer not to say anything.

The official name of the Odyssey zero-torque putter spotted at the 2025 Players Championship is the Ai-One Square 2 Square Max Stripe. The name was unveiled at the Valspar Championship, alongside a second putter with the same design – the Max 1 – minus the stripe (pretty self-explanatory).

What we can gather from the initial images is that it looks to sport a toe-up design based on the fact that it’s a zero-torque, center-shafted putter.

The black-and-white contrast of the Max Stripe is nothing new for Odyssey putters having been seen in many models, first seen in the 2013 Versa range and it’s been seen in many iconic heads over the years, including the Jailbird, No.7, and Double Wide. The contrast will help to line the golf ball up and find the center of the putter face. There is a black line that runs from the putter face to the shaft to further assist with alignment.

Callaway haven’t released any details on the new putter yet, but we’ll bring you all of the information and a full review as soon as we can.
