FIRST LOOK: Kalea Gold is TaylorMade’s new range designed to help women play better golf

Two years on from the groundbreaking design of Kalea Premier, TaylorMade introduces the all-new Kalea Gold golf clubs for women.
There’s no denying that TaylorMade make some of the best ladies golf irons money can buy, and their goal with Kalea Gold is to help women of all abilities play better golf. Whether they’ve just taken up the game or are competing in their Club Championship, TaylorMade Kalea Gold enriches the playing experience for women golfers from tee to green.
As part of the design and engineering process for TaylorMade’s previous range for women golfers, the Kalea Premier, a Women’s Advisory Board was formed. A group of female golf industry professionals located across Europe representing specific niches such as teaching and club fitting. Together, these women were able to provide expert feedback on what worked for both them, and their female clients.
The advisory board was consulted again as part of the design process for TaylorMade Kalea Gold, along with the TaylorMade Women’s Golf and Social Club, which is a group of female TaylorMade employees who were able to provide real-time feedback on everything from colors incorporated into the design to the grips on each club. Who better to advise on women’s clubs than women themselves?
TaylorMade then combined the feedback from their two focus groups with data and online reviews from Kalea Premier to ensure they had their priorities right when it came to the engineering of the product itself.
The two stand-out priorities were cosmetics and performance. Cosmetically, women overwhelmingly advocated to steer away from the pastel colors that are often found in women’s clubs. Instead, they preferred elegant colors like white, blue, and gold which are found in Kalea Gold. From a performance perspective, during the testing process women found the Kalea Gold clubs to be lightweight, forgiving, and high-performing.
“We decided to name this line Kalea Gold because we wanted to set the gold standard with our second premier women’s line, says Michelle Penney, Principal Engineer for TaylorMade.
“We’re building on the momentum of Kalea Premier to create a premium product line through design, technology, and performance. The most important part of the DNA of this product is that it’s designed by women, for women. Kalea Gold represents a new and fresh way of thinking about women’s golf club design.”
Let’s take a look at the TaylorMade Kalea Gold range in detail.
TaylorMade Kalea Gold Driver
The Kalea Gold driver utilizes Carbonwood™ construction throughout the clubhead. This
allows for mass to be strategically placed within the head to increase energy transfer, optimize ball launch, and maximize distance, whilst maintaining a high level of forgiveness and stability.
Mass optimization also allows for the addition of a 2° loft sleeve for optimum adjustability, something many lady golfers missed from the Kalea Premier driver, and a TSS weight for precision tuning.
The new Kalea Gold driver features an enhanced version of Inverted Cone Technology to help maintain ball speed on off-center strikes and increase forgiveness while creating a more efficient energy transfer.
The driver produces a high launch angle and a mid-to-high ball spin, with a draw bias.

TaylorMade Kalea Gold Fairway Woods
Kalea Gold fairway woods feature a wrapped carbon crown with an elegant look that provides a confidence-inspiring contrast with the ball at address. Here again, the use of ultralightweight carbon enhances launch conditions, speed, and forgiveness.
The Speed Pocket™ and Inverted Cone face minimizes the downrange miss on off-center strikes. The addition of a TSS weight allows for optimized tuning here as well.
TaylorMade says that this new fairway wood design made specifically for women, provides easy launch from any conditions. They produce a high launch angle and a mid-to-high ball spin, with a draw bias.

TaylorMade Kalea Gold Rescue
Kalea Gold fairway rescue clubs feature a Speed Pocket and Inverted Cone in the face of the Kalea Gold Rescue™, providing an extra layer of forgiveness. Additionally, the carbon crown lowers the CG for enhanced launch and spin.
The TaylorMade Gold Rescue has been designed and made specifically for women, creating confidence to attack the pin from the tee or from a variety of conditions, angles, and lies.
The new rescue design produces a high launch angle and a mid-to-high ball spin, with a draw bias.

TaylorMade Kalea Gold Irons
Kalea Gold irons utilize Cap Back™ Design which works in tandem with the Speed Pocket to maximize launch and forgiveness. They also feature an ECHO® Damper that promotes better sound and overall feel from the club head. The optimized face in each iron is engineered to increase ball speeds.
Visually, the top lines of Kalea Gold irons are thinner than those of Kalea Premier providing a sleeker, cleaner look in the playing position. Kalea Gold iron lofts are stronger than Kalea Premier to help improve gapping. The irons have a progressive upright lie angle, they produce a high launch angle with a mid-to-high ball spin. Additionally, a draw bias is created by the offset club head.

TaylorMade Kalea Gold Spider Putter
The Kalea Gold putter uses Spider S construction and multi-material design to increase MOI and stability while aiding in alignment. Its blue body, with complimenting grey TruePath Alignment feature, and gold trailing edge provide the perfect contrast against the ball and the green.
A Pure Roll™ insert produces a great sound and feel, while grooves increase topspin on the ball to help it stay on its intended line. A machined and milled 6061 Aluminum body paired with strategically placed tungsten weights provide unparalleled stability for consistent rolls across the greens.
