Everything you need to know about TaylorMade Speedsoft and Speedsoft Ink golf balls entering TaylorMade’s golf ball line-up as their softest option
TaylorMade clearly know what they’re doing when it comes to manufacturing golf balls. They’ve been leading players in the golf ball market since they first started producing golf balls around the turn of the century. Since then TaylorMade have grown from strength to strength and they are highly regarded for offering many of the best golf balls in the game.
Some of the best golfers in the world are teeing it up with the best TaylorMade golf balls, including Rory McIlroy, Charley Hull, Collin Morikawa, and Nelly Korda. All of these golfers are playing with either TP5 or TP5x golf balls – TaylorMade’s finest premium golf balls.
The new SpeedSoft and SpeedSoft Ink golf balls might not make their way into any Tour players’ golf bags, but for the right player, they can transform your golf game. It’s expected that these golf balls will challenge the best golf balls for beginners and high-handicap golfers because of their two-piece construction and sporting an ionomer cover.
Given the distance element of these golf balls is strong, it’s incredibly likely that the SpeedSoft and SpeedSoft Ink golf balls can compete with the best distance golf balls. However, despite there being such a focus on distance, TaylorMade haven’t lost sight of what most golfers want from their golf balls – soft feeling. The SpeedSoft and SpeedSoft Ink golf balls enter TaylorMade’s lineup as the softest golf balls.
Key tech
New PWRCORE
Both the SpeedSoft and SpeedSoft Ink golf balls have been rigged with a new engine not seen in any other TaylorMade golf balls. The new PWRCORE is a brand-new feature that ensures the SpeedSoft is the softest golf ball TaylorMade offers. Soft feel is clearly at the core of this golf ball, as is distance, and the PWRCORE uses faster core materials that have been developed for increased distance.
Soft Sub 50 Compression
The Soft Sub 50 Compression core found in the SpeedSoft and SpeedSoft Ink golf balls has been incorporated for easy compression thanks to the larger core. This also helps to enhance the soft feeling that millions of golfers worldwide appreciate.
322 Extended Flight Dimple Pattern
In order to deliver great distance, TaylorMade have refined their 322 Extended Flight Dimple Pattern so that drag is minimal. In turn, this enables the golf ball to travel farther thanks to the aerodynamics of the dimple pattern.
What TaylorMade say about SpeedSoft and Speedsoft Ink
Josh Dipert, Director of Product Development Engineering, Golf Ball
“SpeedSoft represents a significant stride in our ongoing commitment to delivering performance products to golfers of all skills.
“With a deliberate focus on engineering a low-compression design, this is the first time we’ve created a TaylorMade golf ball with a compression delta below 50.
“SpeedSoft stands out as a game-changer for its unparalleled combination of soft feel and explosive speeds.”
Michael Fox, Senior Director of Product Creation, Golf Ball
“The market demand for golf balls with visual technology is on the rise, reflecting a growing segment of golfers who seek more than just the traditional white ball experience.
“We feel like this is a segment that has previously been ignored, and with SpeedSoft Ink we are meeting this demand while also taking a bold step towards catering to the modern golfer’s desire for visual technology without sacrificing performance.”
Which TaylorMade golf ball should I play?
TaylorMade are offering golfers the choice of six golf balls in 2024. As a golf ball manufacturer, they offer models for golfers of all abilities – as they do with all of their golf equipment.
The best premium golf ball market becomes increasingly crowded year after year, but being the only five-piece golf balls out there the TP5 and TP5x always manage to hold their own. Plus they have Tour validation which is huge for golf balls in that category. TaylorMade offers the TP5 Pix and TPx Pix golf balls for anyone wanting to add color and benefit from alignment aid.
TaylorMade are responsible for one of the best golf balls not played on Tour, and it presents itself as a brilliant value golf ball for mid-handicap golfers who look for premium feel and quality but don’t want to spend a fortune. This golf ball is the Tour Response. TaylorMade introduced the Tour Response Stripe golf balls which help visually and with alignment. There are five different stripe colorways to choose from.
For beginners and high-handicappers TaylorMade always produces some of the best value golf balls and this is where their SpeedSoft and SpeedSoft Ink golf balls sit. If you’re a better golfer there’s no reason why you can’t play with these golf balls but they might not be as productive for you as other models.
Every golfer appreciates extra distance, and TaylorMade owns one of the best distance golf balls – the TaylorMade Distance+. However, this golf ball is much more than a distance golf ball. It performs extremely well from tee to green and it sports a very handy alignment aid you can use on the greens and off the tee.
TaylorMade does offer a female-specific golf ball which is without a doubt one of the best ladies’ golf balls because of its performance off the tee and around the greens. However, not all women will want to play with TaylorMade Kalea golf balls because they have similar properties to the Distance+ and SpeedSoft golf balls.
