Cobra Darkspeed Irons: New game improvement model promises feel, speed and distance
Published:
The Cobra Darkspeed iron is a game improvement model designed to produce amazing feel, faster ball speeds, and deliver increased distance
Every golfer wants to play with a set of irons that gets them hitting more greens and hitting the ball farther – if you’re still on the search, Cobra’s Darkspeed irons just might be the answer.
Having a set of irons in the bag that helps you find the dancefloor more often from a shorter distance, will ultimately improve your standard of play and lower your handicap.
Cobra’s 2023 AeroJet irons were one of the best sets of irons on the market, for the California-based golf giants to better last year’s game improvement irons they needed to up the ante.
While the majority of the best game improvement irons revolve heavily around forgiveness, Cobra have designed a set of irons that are extremely forgiving, but also offer fantastic distance and outstanding feel.
Despite being game-improvement irons, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if golfers who often reach for the best players’ distance irons gave Darkspeed a whirl.
By using AI and some of the greatest minds in golf club R&D, Cobra have manufactured a set of irons for men and women that can challenge a wide range of alternatives.
Much of the technology found in Cobra’s Darkspeed drivers, fairway woods, and hybrids has been incorporated into the Darkspeed irons. Most notably, the larger PWRSHELL insert, the A.I. designed H.O.T. Face, and the PWR Bridge.
It’s all well and good using the same technology in irons that works in woods, so long as it delivers. How exactly have Cobra made sure their 2024 irons will benefit your game?
Distance has always been important in golf, and it will continue to be (especially with the announcement of the golf ball rollback). So, owning a set of irons that travel farther than any others has major positive implications for your game. Cobra’s A.I. designed H.O.T. Face has been drastically improved from last year so that more speed and distance can be unlocked.
However integral distance is, Cobra will have understood that distance isn’t everything for every golfer, millions of golfers let feel dictate their iron purchases. With this in mind, Cobra have designed their Darkspeed irons with a hollow-body construction which feels amazing and sounds super sweet.
We’re not going to hit every single green in regulation (we can dream), but Cobra have improved the dispersion of Darkspeed compared to AeroJet by designing a larger sweet spot which makes mishits less punishing and less wayward. It won’t be enough to stop a sh*** (I won’t say it) from heading off at a 45° angle, but it could be the difference between clinging on to the side of the green compared to finding that greenside bunker you always take two to get out of.
Cobra Darkspeed irons are available in variable length for both men and women. Back by popular demand, Cobra have continued to manufacture ONE length irons in Darkspeed. However, ONE length will only be available with the Darkspeed Men’s iron heads.
Let’s take a look at which Cobra Darkspeed irons are best suited for you…
Cobra Darkspeed irons
RRP: £849.00 (S) / $999.00 (S) / £949.00 (G) / $999.00 (G)
Cobra have released just the one head for 2024, so whether you opt for the men’s variable length, men’s ONE length, or women’s Darkspeed irons the Darkspeed head contains the same technology and material. The variable length iron is expected to be the best-selling Darkspeed model in 2024 and it’ll be challenging the best mid-high handicap iron sets from competitors.
Darkspeed irons run from 4-iron to sand wedge. Stock sets are either 4-iron to pitching wedge or 5-iron to gap wedge. With custom orders, you can order any configuration you wish.
Being predominantly a distance iron, Darkspeed’s lofts are quite strong. The Darkspeed 7-iron is 27°, while this is half a degree weaker than AeroJet, it doesn’t seem to negatively impact distance compared to last year’s game-improvement iron set.
The hollow-body construction is filled with 924D foam microspheres to present a fantastic feel and super sweet sound – making it easy to confuse these irons for players’ distance irons! We expect the Cobra Darkspeed irons to be one of the best mid-high handicap iron sets in 2024.

Cobra Darkspeed Women’s irons
£729.00 (S) / $859.00 (S) / £819.00 (G) / $859.00 (G)
The Cobra Darkspeed Women’s iron head is exactly the same as the Cobra Darkspeed iron head, apart from having cool blue accents. With it being the same head as the Darkspeed iron head, anybody who likes the splash of cool blue on the Darkspeed Women’s head can put this in the bag.
Unfortunately, the Darkspeed Women’s irons are only available in variable length. Any women wanting ONE length irons will need to purchase the Darkspeed irons which have no colorful accents.
The Darkspeed Women’s irons are lofted the same as the Darkspeed irons (7-iron 27°). The head contains the same technology and material, which helps these irons deliver such outstanding distance and forgiveness. Darkspeed Women’s irons are available as a stock set from 6-iron to sand wedge – you can add a 5-iron and gap wedge.
It’ll be no surprise to see these Cobra irons contending the best women’s iron sets in 2024.

Cobra Darkspeed ONE Length irons
£849.00 (S) / $999.00 (S) / £949.00 (G) / $999.00 (G)
ONE length iron set sales account for 30% of all Cobra iron set sales, so it’s not surprising to see Cobra continuing to offer ONE length irons in Darkspeed. The ONE length iron head is almost identical to the other two iron heads, apart from the fact it has ONE length written on the back and has red and blue accents that have become standard on ONE length Cobra clubs.
Another difference is that the soles of the 4-iron, 5-iron, and 6-iron are wider than the other clubs in the set and weaker lofted to help with trajectory tuning. An obvious difference to the variable length sets is that ONE length Darkspeed irons are all the same length. Every iron is the length of a 7-iron (37.25″) which encourages a repeatable setup and swing.
ONE length irons are incredibly popular and they can massively benefit your game. They help with improving contact and increasing greens in regulation. We expect Darkspeed ONE length irons to be up there with the best mid-high handicap irons in 2024.
