“Sweeter from every spot.” Sounds great doesn’t it?
A new season brings fresh claims and Callaway is certainly not holding back with a promise that will pull on the heartstrings of every golfer – optimized performance no matter where your drive hits the club face.
And of course, we shouldn’t accept these claims on ‘face’ value. Or perhaps we should, especially considering that ‘values off the face’ are exactly what has led Callway’s 120 R&D wizards to coin their four new Paradym Ai-Smoke drivers the ‘sweetest ever’.
For those well-versed in golf equipment, you’ll notice the continuation of Callaway’s super-successful Paradym name, accountable for more PGA Tour wins than any other driver in 2023 and undoubtedly one of the best drivers of the year.
The 360 carbon fiber chassis represented a seismic shift in how the company designed drivers, and with this approach paying dividends for pros and club golfers alike, Paradym is here to stay – one year on, one year smarter.
Experience is nothing without the performance to back it up, however.
After all, the competition is always rolling forward, the golf ball is rolling back, and consumers willing to invest $600 on a driver need increasing bang for their buck.
Luckily Callaway has a ‘not-so-secret’ weapon.
A super-computer, nurtured patiently over 15 years by a dedicated Artificial Intelligence (AI) team. Nobody in the game is more focused on writing lines of custom code to power AI into designing better-performing golf products.
And in 2024, the output is pretty exciting, the most sophisticated driver face ever produced – the Ai-Smart Face.
Real-world data
The problem is (as you might be mulling), that golf isn’t played in labs, and I certainly don’t swing like a robot.
Controlled testing has great value in some contexts such as our Robot Golf Ball Test, however, they struggle to replicate how different abilities of golfers deliver the club at impact.
What sets the Paradym Ai-Smoke family apart is the bespoke nature of each driver, optimized from the 250,000 tour pro and consumer swings across the world that Callaway has mapped out.
That’s over a million real-world data points, gobbled up before regurgitating 50,000 electronic prototypes, each one offering a refinement over the iteration before, be it an improvement in speed or dispersion.
By the time the super-computer hit 50,000, AI had cut dispersion by a third to 33.89 sq yds. And if it’s distance you’re after, Callaway can legally state that their Ai-Smoke drivers are 7 yards longer than the first generation of the Paradym family!
Callaway says this ability to run thousands of design simulations is the key to engineering golf clubs that will help us all play better golf.
They dub this the ‘Swing Code’ – outstripping human brain power to deliver drivers with optimized face thicknesses that meet the demands of four playing requirements.
Callaway has achieved this via some next-level innovative thinking, taking the modern industry-standard trampoline-esque driver face concept a step further by integrating a series of micro-trampolines.
The distribution of these micro-trampolines differs across each of the four faces to target the typical needs of distinct player types, categorized not just by where they impact shots on the face, but the attack angle, club path, and swing speed too!
Sound intriguing? We think so – let’s meet the models and find out who they’re for…
Callaway Paradym Ai-Smoke drivers: The models
Callaway Paradym Ai-Smoke Max driver
RRP $599.99 | Lofts 9º, 10.5º, 12º
The Max is the core Ai-Smoke model aimed at the majority of golfers with average speed swings of 90 – 100 mph. This category of golfer will typically use most of the club face across their round, and impact with a slightly upward attack angle and out-to-in club path.
It’s the most forgiving driver in the family and will likely outstrip all the others put together in terms of sales. The Max is the only one of the family to have an adjustable sole weight which can be used to help golfers dial in a preferred shot shape.

Callaway Paradym Ai-Smoke Max D driver
RRP $599.99 | Lofts 9º, 10.5º, 12º
The Max D is the most draw-biased Ai-Smoke driver, replacing the previous Paradym X, and will be the best option for slightly slower swinging players (75 – 90 mph). The Ai-Smart Face is designed to help counteract slices caused by out-to-in swing paths and will likely feature amongst the best draw drivers of the year.
Expect the model to hit 9 yards further left than last year’s set-up, which is also further left than setting the Max head up with the sole weight in the draw position.

Callaway Paradym Ai-Smoke Max Fast driver
RRP $599.99 | Lofts TBC
The Max Fast is a brand new model for US and European markets, although Callaway has made something similar in Japan for several years. The Max Fast is again targeted at slower-swinging players (75 – 90 mph) but differentiates from the Max D by being 35g lighter.
At just 270g, the Max Fast is an easy-launching driver, ideally suited to those looking to boost swing speed. It replaces the Callaway Paradym Star driver we’ve seen in the West before with a concept akin to the Wilson Staff D300 driver.

Callaway Paradym Ai-Smoke Triple Diamond driver
RRP $599.99 | Lofts 8°, 9º, 10.5º
The Triple Diamond model is designed for high-speed players (100+ mph) and Callaway’s band of elite tour athletes, including the likes of Jon Rahm and Min Woo Lee who can consistently center their impacts with an upward attack angle and neutral swing path.
This year’s model features front and back sole weighting, allowing golfers to dial in launch and spin, and builds on the huge success of its predecessor by delivering a tighter down-range dispersion. The Paradym AI-Smoke Triple Diamond is destined to rank among the best low-spin drivers of 2024.
