Ping G430 fairway woods and hybrids boast new carbon crown

A carbon fiber crown helps Ping deliver distance and forgiveness across the G430 fairway woods and hybrids.

Drivers tend to hog the limelight when any brand launches a new family of metalwoods, but in the case of Ping’s new G430 range, the fairway woods and hybrids deserve their fair share of the attention.

That’s because the biggest new technology in G430 woods is ‘Carbonfly’, which is Ping’s first carbon crown since the Ping Rapture was released way back in 2006. But, in the drivers, Carbonfly is only present in one of the three models (the G430 LST has it, but not the G430 MAX or G430 SFT – read our Ping G430 drivers reviews here.

Carbonfly is present in all Ping G430 fairway woods and hybrids, alongside some other notable enhancements that promise to improve on the very impressive G425 fairway woods and G425 hybrids.

Ever since Ping introduced the G2 range way back in 2004 the ‘G’ marquee has produced some of the most forgiving and best fairway woods available. Each generation since has slowly primped and preened the model, to be better looking, more forgiving, and produce faster ball speeds.

The trend continues with the new Ping G430 fairway wood family, but this time around, thanks to a new wraparound carbon fiber crown on top, Ping say golfers will see their biggest ever single-generation gains from a G fairway wood.

The Ping G430 is a three-model family, with an option that suits everyone from high-speed players, to average club golfers and slicers. Here’s our guide to ensure you get the right fairway wood for your game.

Ping G430 LST fairway wood

There’s the Ping G430 LST, which is the low-spin model. This will typically be most at home in the hands of high swing speed players, and those who have no difficulty launching and flighting fairway wood shots from the turf. It also features a titanium chassis and, consequently, a higher price point than the other two models, so you’ll need to be a serious golfer to warrant investing in such a costly fairway wood.

Ping G430 Max fairway wood

The Ping G430 MAX is the fairway wood for the masses, and Ping say it will be the best fit for even more golfers than the G425 MAX. It will generally suit players whose driver swing speed is 90-105mph (though there will of course be the odd exceptions), and there’s a G430 MAX High Launch model for slower swings.

Ping G430 SFT fairway wood

The family is completed by the G430 SFT fairway wood, which is draw-biased and the most forgiving model in the G430 fairway wood range.

Alongside the G430 fairway woods come the Ping G430 hybrids.

Ping have long been known for creating easy-to-hit, forgiving hybrids that appeal to golfers of all abilities. The Ping G425 hybrid was one of the best hybrid golf clubs and its successor, the Ping G430 hybrid, looks set to build upon that success.

“The popularity of our hybrids continues to grow,” says John K. Solheim, PING CEO & President. “They’ve quietly become one of our most successful categories. They’ve earned a reputation as easy-to-hit, reliable gapping solutions to mid and long irons known mainly for their forgiveness. With the added distance golfers will now enjoy from the G430 hybrids, it’s one more reason to get fit for a PING hybrid.”

The G430 hybrid, launched alongside Ping’s G430 drivers, fairway woods, and a G430 iron, promises significant gains over its predecessor.

“The combined distance gains throughout the entire G430 family are like nothing we’ve seen from one generation of clubs to the next,” says Solheim. “Our approach with G430 has been to find more speed and deliver it in a way that contributes to lower scores and more enjoyment on the course.”
