Wilson D9 Forged iron is brand’s most technologically advanced

Eighteen months on from launching their D9 distance clubs comes the tech-packed D9 Forged, a premium two-piece players distance iron that uses ‘Power Hole Technology’ to combine feel and higher launch angles for better stopping power on the greens. 

A bias towards the heel of the club opens the face and increases contact time with the ball, while a lower centre of gravity provides a higher launch, higher peak trajectory, more carry distance and a steeper descent angle than its D7 Forged predecessor.

Like the original D9, a high-handicap irons which targeted more erratic ball strikers, the Forged have been created using Wilson’s generative computer design process. It simulates a wide variety of club head and data variations to produce the most effective design possible.

Wilson are making a big noise about their Power Hole technology in the sole, which has been optimised for the D9 Forged and boosted ball speeds across the face. Our 2022 irons test data certainly supports that.

The D9 Forged generates an additional 1mph of ball speed from the centre of the face than the D7, which equates to about 3 yards of extra carry distance. To ensure a balanced set and to provide more control in the short irons, the Power Holes only feature in the 4–7 irons.

The 8620 Carbon Steel forged head has a thin topline with minimal offset, which looks appealing when standing over the ball.

Available in left and right-handed from early April, the D9 Forged comes with True Temper Dynamic Gold VVS steel shafts or Mamiya UST Recoil Dart graphite shafts as standard, along with a Wilson Staff Lamkin Crossline grip.
