REVEALED: TaylorMade SIM2 drivers, fairways, irons and hybrids

What happens when you take something brilliant and make it even better? The TaylorMade SIM2.

The TaylorMade SIM range launched at the beginning of 2020 and went on to achieve considerable success around the golfing globe.

It performed superbly in our 2020 Drivers Test, was hugely popular with amateur golfers of all handicaps, and the drivers and woods made it into the bags of tour pros including Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa and Matthew Wolff. In fact, TaylorMade SIM was used by two of the three major winners in 2020.

Whilst the SIM launch was a complete overhaul from TaylorMade, replacing the hugely successful M range, SIM2 is more of a refinement of last year’s models.

But that’s not to say the improvements aren’t significant. Because when club designers and engineers don’t have to spend all their time coming up with a brand new design, they are free to analyse how each and every part of the existing SIM can be tweaked and improved to deliver even better performance.

That’s exactly what they’ve done, and the result is SIM2, which takes the excellent SIM range and makes it better in every way.

TaylorMade SIM2 drivers

With the original SIM range, TaylorMade focused on reshaping the driver to deliver speed at the most critical stage of the swing – those milliseconds right through impact. They did it with a new head shape, SIM standing for “Shape In Motion”.

For 2021, TaylorMade have retained the head shape that worked so well, but reinvented the way it is constructed.

They believe the new materials and design tweaks enable them to deliver fantastic clubhead speeds, while offering greater forgiveness.

“Forgiveness equals confidence,” says Tomo Bystedt, TaylorMade’s Senior Director of Product Creation.

“In 2020, we built a driver that was aerodynamic and had one of the hottest faces in golf. By increasing forgiveness with SIM2, we have truly engineered a driver that has no trade-offs.

As with SIM, there are three models in the SIM2 range: the SIM2, SIM2 Max, and SIM2 Max D.

The SIM2 offers mid-launch and low spin, the SIM2 Max offers mid-to-high launch and mid-to-low spin, while the SIM2 Max D is a draw-biased model with high launch and mid-spin.

The TaylorMade SIM2 drivers have an RRP of £449 and are on sale from February 19.

TaylorMade SIM2 fairway woods

Alongside the three drivers, TaylorMade have also created a three-model fairway wood offering, comprising the SIM2 Titanium, SIM2 Max and SIM2 Max D.

Again, as with the drivers, TaylorMade have focused on improving last year’s SIM with more efficient materials and subtle design tweaks.

“In the world of golf club engineering, we fight for millimeters because those small changes can lead to big results,” says TaylorMade’s Tomo Bystedt.

All three models come with a lower centre of gravity than last year’s range, which should make them easier to launch off the deck.

The TaylorMade SIM2 Titanium fairway wood has an RRP of £369. SIM2 Max and SIM2 Max D are £279 RRP. All three are on sale from February 19.

TaylorMade SIM2 Rescue and SIM2 Max Rescue

The TaylorMade SIM Max Rescue was a big hit in 2020, with golfers from tour pros to high handicappers seeing great results with it. TaylorMade therefore decided to expand their hybrid offering, with a SIM2 Rescue and SIM2 Max Rescue available in 2021.

Having two hybrids in their SIM2 range enables TaylorMade to cater to different types of golfers.

The SIM2 Rescue is flatter, more like an iron, and will suit golfers who tend to hit down on their hybrid shots. The SIM2 Max Rescue, meanwhile, has a wider head and will suit golfers who tend to sweep their hybrids off the deck with less turf impact.

The TaylorMade SIM2 Rescue has an RRP of £259. The SIM2 Max Rescue is £229 RRP. Both are on sale from February 19.

TaylorMade SIM2 Max and SIM2 Max OS irons

The TaylorMade SIM2 range also includes two sets of irons, the SIM2 Max and SIM2 Max OS.

Aimed at mid-to-high handicappers wanting plenty of forgiveness and distance, TaylorMade have used a multi-faceted design that they say helps minimise the unwanted vibrations that create the harsh feel associated with distance irons.

As per the SIM Max and SIM Max OS irons they are replacing, expect both models to be extremely forgiving, with the SIM2 Max OS having stronger lofts for those wanting to eke out every yard of distance from their swing speed.
