Cobra launches new King Utility iron – with adjustable loft

The Cobra King Utility iron is one of the first to offer adjustable loft

Cobra irons have really impressed in our recent tests. Both the Cobra King Forged Tec and Cobra King Speedzone featured in our pick of the Best Golf Irons of 2020, meaning there’s a Cobra iron for you whether you want a real ‘players iron’ or a game-improvement option. 

Cobra have now bolstered their iron line-up with the launch of the Cobra King Utility iron. It’s designed for use on tee shots and long approach shots. 

A classic, muscle-back iron shape delivers controlled ball flights, while a wider sole and hollow body provides stability, power, and a low centered CG for trajectories that are high and penetrating. 

Cobra’s “PWRSHELL” face insert expands the sweetspot to preserve ball speed and distance on off-centre strikes while helping launch and trajectory.

Adjustable loft

Golfers have become accustomed to adjustability in their drivers and fairway woods, but it’s not often you can adjust the loft of your irons. That’s precisely what Cobra have achieved with the King Utility, which features a series of eight adjustable loft settings that let you tweak the launch and trajectory. 

In-built stat-tracking

The Cobra King Utility iron comes with Cobra Connect Powered by Arccos Caddie. A sensor in the grip tracks and records each shot you hit, producing data you can analyse using the Arccos Caddie app. 

One length

One length irons became the talk of golf when Bryson DeChambeau first burst onto the scene using a full set of Cobra irons that were all the length of a 7-iron. Since then, an increasing number of golfers have experienced the benefit of having all their clubs the same length and therefore being able to maintain a consistent setup and address position for every single shot. As such, the King Utility is available in a One Length option, its 37.5″ shaft making it a perfect complement to any of Cobra’s One Length iron sets. 

It’s also available in a “normal” length, too. 

Models available

The standard Cobra King Utility iron is available in these lofts: 

– 2-Utility (adjustable from 16 – 20 degrees)

– 3-Utility (adjustable from 18 – 21 degrees)

– 4-Utility (adjustable from 21 – 24 degrees)

The standard Utility comes with a steel KBS $-Taper lite (in S or R flex) and a graphite Project X Catalyst 80 (in X-Stiff, S, or R flex) shaft options with a Lamkin Crossline CONNECT Black grip.

It’s £179 with a graphite shaft and £169 with a steel shaft. 

The King Utility One Length utility iron is available in the following lofts:

– 3-Utility (adjustable from 18 – 21 degrees)

– 4-Utility (adjustable from 21 to 24 degrees)

– 5-Utility (adjustable from 24 to 27 degrees).

The ONE Length Utility offering comes standard with a steel KBS $-Taper lite (in S or R flex) and a graphite Project X Catalyst 80 (in S, XS, or R flex) shaft options with a Lamkin Crossline CONNECT Blue grip. 

It’s £179 with a graphite shaft and £169 with a steel shaft.
